... finished building the new fork for my separable touring bike.

Tomorrow I will build the new rear triangle and then I just have to build up a custom stem.

God I love the smell of flux in the morning.

:)

cleaned my drive train, it's been a long time. Feels good to see a shiny chainring, cog, and chain.....now I get to go ride in the rain and **** it all up.

TODAY I:

raced to the dogpatch saloon to meet up with my friends at 12am for a midnight bike ride in San Francisco. I had some Blue Moon for the first time, it was surprisingly good.
I missed the ride but my friends stayed and we rode all over SF bombing hills and having a good time. We stopped at Valencia to walk around and eat. That's where I had a jumbo Burrito and a Red Tail to quench my hunger/thirst. after that we rode to Balboa Park at 3am, that's when the fog rolled in. it was epic!!! passed out for 4 hours then I rode down a massive hill onto Valencia at 930am where I had the best iced Soy Latte and PB&J. from there I took BART to the EAST BAY and now I find myself here, eating, wanting to go on another bike ride.:thumb:

Life is good.

OH Yea! and I bought a new wheelset. Suzue promax-Velocity with an
EAI Gold Star!! smooooth riding

today I...

was meeting up with a guy from craigslist to sell him a hat I was never going to wear. The guy was running late and gave this meth head looking guy a chance to approach me. He asked if I had a gas can he could have and I thought “oh the ol’ I’m out of gas excuse” and I said “actually I do, in my truck not far from here”. And I told him I’d go get it for him after I sold this hat.

Sold the hat, went to get the gas can and met him at a nearby gas station. I gave him a $1 for gas and the guy next to us did as well. I asked him before we put any gas in that if he was bull****ting me, just tell me now and I’d give him the $1 bill instead of the gas, that I didn’t want to waste my time for nothing. He assured me he was telling the truth.

So he gives me the location of his car and I bike down Dallas for a little while looking for it, I pass Taft and I still haven’t seen it and I’m starting to think I’ve just bought some guy without a car some gas. But I go a little further and sure enough there’s a car illegally parked in front of some condos, like he mentioned, and it’s the same make and model he said it’d be. I waited for him to get there, so I could get my gas can back, but mostly because I was curious to see if he was telling the truth after all this.

He finally shows up and starts putting the gas into the car. I even briefly thought he may be filling up a stranger’s car just to not look like a liar, because he briefly played a “I can’t find my keys” game and had already told me “man I lost my phone earlier”. So my faith was definitely wavering.

He finds his keys, pops his trunk and moves about half of the gas into an empty bottle of alcohol (we didn’t have a funnel). I’m not sure why he had such a giant bucket of alcohol in his trunk, but he did. Eventually after spilling most of the gas on himself, he gives up and offers to give me a ride back (I decline). He also heard me take a picture of his car and was like “AW DON/T BE MAKIN’ FUN OF ME ON FACEBOOK NOW.”

then on the way home, the clicking sound from my bb/chainring/whatever returned! GDF)(#@%)*#@)(%*)#(

You're going to have to try harder fresh meat.

On topic:

Today I had a leisurely bike ride with my wife. For some reason, I feel that I'm unable to actually relax and always trying to go fast....

hairnet 07-17-11 03:11 PM

I rode for about six hours yesterday and I have the sun burns to prove it. At least I am happy to know I finally have a saddle that does not hurt after a couple hours

You should try that after sunburn cream/ gel with aloe; it really helps. Seriously, my first bi-weekly distance bike ride in socal on my roadie resulted in harsh neck and arm sunburn because I was wearing my short sleeve jersey and no sunscreen; sunscreen doesn't sell very well in the bay area. Which leads me to ask why didn't the said native know better? :p

hairnet 07-17-11 03:19 PM

I put sun screen but I guess it wore off after a couple hours from the sweat and I forgot to bring the tube with me. I have applied aloe gel multiple times since I got home. I'm going to have killer tan lines on my arms and quads

Leukybear 07-17-11 03:25 PM

Well the flip side is I heard sqrls dig guys with tan lines. :thumb:

hamfoh 07-17-11 03:41 PM

I'm not sure that guy knows what trolling is, especially since he called it trolling.

Si :( I'm going to take everything off sometime here in the next day or two and put it back on.

i feel like this on my commute everyday! i always tell myself im just gonna cruise but it never happens.

hamfoh 07-17-11 04:00 PM

same. if I leave early enough to get somewhere I think "I'm going to relax and take my time" and always end up hauling ass and showing up drenched in sweat.

Today I:

1. Figured out what caused my little accident yesterday (on a ~60 mile road ride on the Serotta, on a downhill, over-shifted on the front, chain jammed, bent the new big ring). Today I had the bike on the stand, thought I had correctly adjusted the derailleur stop, and did it again. As I was untangling the chain, something dropped on the floor. It was one of the derailleur pivot bolts . At least I was able to put it back in and get it working properly. Maybe it is time to upgrade to 10-speed .

2. Listed a few things on ebay in anticipation of needing cash for a new build :innocent:.

Or maybe it's time to upgrade to a bike with a fixed gear

Well, considering that I already have FOUR fixed gear bikes and working on a fifth, I'll keep wishing for ten-speed for the Serotta.

You also have a head-start on me as you apparently are older and I am only getting (re-)started on the collection :o.

hamfoh 07-17-11 05:17 PM

Forgot I had an extra set of chainbolts that Scrod linked me not too long ago. Just replaced the loose one. Hopefully I can bring an end to boring people about it once and for all.

konageezer 07-17-11 05:30 PM

Re-wrapped my handlebars with cork/gel tape. And fixed a flat. Then it started to rain.
