Got a message from my LBS that my wife's via condotti is here. Problem is half the parts I ordered are not here and my wife is working today.

Found out that the drivetrain on my Mash is 1/8. Never bothered checking and just believed BD when they said it was 3/32. New chain time is coming up and this is good news.

Mash is the new Kilo?
|
BD can't afford Columbus tubing, bro.

Today I took my 725 out for the first time and **** kept slipping on stops/start ups. biked home, took off cog and lockring, put back on carefully and retightened, happened again. are all-city cogs okay for use with PW hubs? I can't figure out what's going on now

Anyhow, philwood references a "quality" cog would work. I.E. DA, phil's, campy, EAI (newer revision)... not an economical brand like origin 8 or all city. |
because I don't have my pw cog yet and because scrod gave all-city a thumbs up! the guy locally who I was buying from suddenly wanted $50 for it so I said eff it and ordered a new one. So I can either ride an A-C for a few days while I wait on it to arrive, or just let it sit there :o
though you did still answer my question I think, so thank you :D |
Are you using a Phil or Campy lockring ? The threading is different, and a standard lockring like Dura Ace won't work.
|
You should check out what's happening there through and stop riding it until you have the proper cog.
|
Yeah I came home very cautiously, one of the slips came at an intersection and it scared the **** out of me. Soma until I figure it out

And yes, what lockring are you using? And on a brighter note, excuse me fellas, I have a bike to pick up. :D |
phil wood lockring. I meant I'll ride my soma until I figure it out :D
DA stops at 16t though right? Hopefully the problem will be solved when my PW cog comes in, but I would like to know which ones I can get away with using. I don't exactly want to buy a 19t in PW and a 17t in PW if I don't have to. I'd like a 19t for easier riding, the PW is 17 |
I just compared an All-city cog and a Phil cog I've got sitting in my toolbox and they are the exact same thickness. There's no reason it shouldn't work.

if I remember correctly Soma cogs are a bit too thick for the lockring to engage completely....

Weird. I'll redo everything again. Is there another issue out there that would cause a slip like that?
|
Today I drove to Olympia to pick up a Klein mountain bike for a nice price.

Today I realized I probably didn't torque down the cranks on my FTP enough. Lulz. Guess I should stop riding it for now 'til I get my hands on a torque wrench...

Put my new Omniums (167.5 w/ 48T chainring) on my Le Tour conversion. AWESOME. While trying to remove the crappy thin cog that came stock with my velocity deep V wheelset to replace with a beefy Surly 17T cog the old cog somehow crossthreaded and I'm pretty sure the fixed side is fuxxor'd. Rode home on the freewheel. Mailed the check to a friend, who is sending me Alex DA-16s laced to American Classic track hubs. Anyway, the Omniums feel incredible. Not super wild about the freewheel but it gets me around for now.

Pulse Comp, so, from what I hear, not a pre-Trek model, but pretty nice for $150. Just need to pick up a shifter cable and a new chain.
I was an idiot to let him sell it! |
Yes you were!
Checked some catalogs. Mine's a 1996 model. |
Just came back from a cruise all around town with my wife on her new via condotti. Ironically she got more compliments for her bike than me, and I was on my orca; yea I wanted to ride my townie but I had a pinhole flat in my rear that took me by surprise, I ended up riding in my highest gearing to prevent myself from over taking and losing her.
Nevertheless, casual clothes, no helmet, evening cruise in the cool air really takes the cake. |
Today I decided to save for a Bianchi pista instead of going the whole kilo TT route..
|
Tonight while hanging out and drinking in hollywood with the bike homies a girl comes up to our group at about 12:45 sobbing saying she was mugged. A couple of guys got her bags description. 5 minutes later they came back with her bag. Missing only her cash and cell phone. My friends are ****ing amazing.
|
Last night was wonderful. I rode my FG for the second time. (Yay, after 10 days on my geared bike I had forgotten I couldn't coast which was funny at first. Got the hang of it, and am getting really good at repositioning my pedal at a stoplight without reaching back and lifting my bike.) Hung out with friends at a great little neighborhood bar, sat on the back patio in the gorgeous night air, ordered yummy pizzas, drank good beer. It was the quintessential perfect Chicago summer evening.

This morning I realized I've been riding around with a spare tube, levers, and everything else I could possibly need except a wrench to actually take the wheels off. Time to find a small compact one for the saddle bag. Sadly my lockring/wrench/chainwhip tool is great but far too large.
