Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

haha the guy talking at about 59 seconds is a regular around LA. I see him on a lot of the more serious rides where people go faster then 15mph for more then 15 minutes (Derp.) He's fast as the wind and I can't hate. Home boy has more Wolf Pack dog tags then any man should. Especially if that man isn't me.

Exactly. Perhaps Carleton remembers this T-shirt which was sold at the 2009 Master's Track National Championships:

Yeah I remember that shirt. I bought one.

I guess I was referring to the "us vs. them" sentiment that some FG folks have. The same existed between BMX and Skate when they didn't realize that they were waaaay more alike than different.

I cant watch the video right now, but if you and they are talking about John The Roadie, I'll just say he's a Masters Cat 2 and holds a jersey for CA road race state champion. Cool guy and I scratched his DI2 derailer by accident - eeeeek

Watching a fixed gear video is like watching a NASCAR race,it sucks, and you know exactly whats going to happen before it does.

I think that the vast majority of guys riding fixed are unnecessarily dogmatic. I think fixies look dope but that's as far as my enthusiasm goes when it comes to the bikes.

Some of these hipsters need to realize there's no cultural barrier between them and other bike riders.

It reminds me of motorcyclists who front like their hard because of how fast their bikes go.

Even at 150RPM, the "old guy" topped that 31MPH on his commute this morning, too.
yea the freestyle kid was exactly what i would expect but this is the part where i was seriously like, 'dude, please stop' honest i dont care if this guy is quick or whatever, if he was REALLY a serious cyclist he would know how stupid that sounds. im not claiming to be some authority or whatever on a bike but i can tell you i do +300kms[~10hrs on the bike] a week just commuting, not including my recreational riding. most of that is on a singlespeed drivetrain. it doesnt make me special, not in the least.

Is anyone else getting all the visual static, like not even being able to really see the video, or is it just my computer? If it's just my computer, does does anyone know how to fix it?
I wanna know if this video is worth wasting a single post account for!

The audio works fine by the way.
It flashes from this to almost visible to worse than this:

Looks slick. Hard not to hate on the blonde/pink bike guy. The Inception style soundtrack would be more appropriate for something actually hardcore (like the TdF)

oh god, have you ever watched a NASCAR race? That is like saying you know the outcome of (put any sporting event here) before it happens.

Hahaha why is the music so intense? It's really out of place.

"Purest, truest form of cycling" lol.

I mean the whole thing is kind of ridiculous -- bikes are bikes, there doesn't really have to be a weird subculture around fixed gear riding.

That being said, it looks like this thing is pretty well made, and I'd totes watch it for free on the internetz.

A band I was on tour with a couple of years ago played a couple of shows with Nicolas Cage's son's really bad metal band. Now THAT kid is one of the biggest tools I've ever had the displeasure of meeting.

No theres not... Maybe back 4-5 years ago, maybe. If anything (and this should maybe get a movie over some hipsters with a camera) there is a popular culture of riding bikes period. It makes me so happy when I see a nuclear-family traveling by bike (not just on the nice days either) My girlfriend laughed and then *****ed the the whole time as I wanted to give the trailer a chance. I would see it if its free since I like watching bike movies. I agree with Carleton that they need to change some of the wording of the copy.

Everyone of these videos look the same. And fgfs is all the same. Also people who polo on fixed gears usually are no good. I don't see how taking any random form of cycling and making it not be able to coast makes it cooler and more extreme. Lets get some fixed tandem riding or downhill mtb fixed riders going, that'll be the next cool thing.

It's just vimeo; just turn off HD like I did and the video should play fine without the HD goodness however.
