yeah man, the velo-mine lugged steel frame is really cool, but i was leaning towards a little nicer tubing. i used to have an aluminum and carbon road bike but think my current steel rides better, which is why i was going to get a steel track bike. however, i do have a steel bianchi pista, so i have thought about mixing it up with an aluminum frame. what made you choose the wabi lightning over the pake french track frame?

edit: i also noticed that Dennis on fixedgeargallery has written a review on the wabi lightning ant the wabi special, yet he owns the lightning, that's saying something.

Well as I understood it the velomine track fram might be maxway? Tubing. Scrod or someone else would have to chime in on that. The lightning is a great bike, and I hope to own one shortly, but am in the process of moving from Utah to the la area, so I'm saving right now. I can't say enough about the lightning, it was just so light and quick. It handled great and you notice how light it is right away, but especially on climbs.

I wasn't looking at the pake frame, I'm just riding a bridgestone conversion right now. A 1988 rb2. I love this bike for getting around town, but I am ready for a lightning. If I get play money I will probably try to build up he velOmine frame just for the enjoyment of building a bike. But if it was going to he one bike, it would be a wabi lightning. Now to decide between the matte black and the orange.

the lightning is such a cool frame, and the scandium makes it seem like the tubing is probably nicer than most aluminum track bikes for a lot more money. i would get one in a heartbeat if the bb wasn't 1 inch lower than my current track bike. should i just not worry about it and get one?

agreed. the lightning with bullhorns just seems like it'd look so sexy

I know the lightning has horizontal drop outs, that's why I mentioned the Classic & Special :)

thanks to getting mine at COST my Soma Rush 2010 LTD only cost me $260- for that money I can't imagine being happier with my personal choice. I've got the ratio set up at 48x17 and it is just silly fast with Velocity Wheels and Omnium Cranks.

Thanks for all the input so far, but after riding a lot recently, it being spring and all, I've decided to go for an aluminum track bike that will be lightweight and have very aggressive angles; true track geometry. So I've been looking for a used Cinelli Mash or Vigorelli (mostly because they seem to be the most popular in aluminum aggressive track bikes), but don't want to spend too much money on the frame and having to put crap components on it. I have tons of components lying around but most won't be as nice as the frame, except for my Phil Wood wheelset, which would be sweet on any bike. I've also looked (though definitely above my price range) at the Pelizolli Leggenda, the Low Bicycles Pursuit out of SF, used Cannondale track frames (although carbon forks are cool), etc,. So pretty much what I'm asking is if there is a bike as badass as these for less money?

Or should I just blow all my money and get whatever frame I want (keeping in mind I have to eat)?

Neither of the Cinelli's are as aggressive as you think.

T1 has better "true track" geometry and is aluminum.

S-Works Langster (T1 still beats it in geometry)
