Dirt cheap messenger wheels?
I need some winter wheels - cheap!
Plan is to put Surly hub on a Mavic ma3 with plain DT spokes on the rear and Ma3 on Shimmy Deore front. Anyone know anything cheaper with reasonable durability?

I agree with [165] - the hubs hold up really well. Just change the stock locknuts at track bolts. I've had a car put it's front bumper through the MA3, but it never made it all the way to the seat stays. Cracked the rim, though. But the hub simply got upgraded to a higher end Mavic. I don't remember what it was, because it was stolen a couple of days later.

yup, a sturdy wheelset to be sure. i'm running surly hubs laced to ma3's on my beater; no problems to speak of yet. though i suppose many wouldn't find this to be a 'cheap' set of wheels.
