I'm sure glad my state doesn't give a crap about bikes.

Wait.

I'll bet you could even do it "no hands." :innocent:

(not to rain on your parade.) perhaps im just taking things too seriously.

The "muckybrake" allows the user to satisfy the letter of the law without embracing the spirit of the law.

I'm going to try this muck.

Leukybear 05-03-11 12:51 PM

Pics of the set up on your concept? More specifically the rear kierin brake caliper?

bikessuck 05-03-11 01:08 PM

i know this isn't a serious thing and all but if you're gonna run a brake why not just throw it up front where it'll actually be useful? just sayin :p

something about the law saying you need a brake that can lock up the rear wheel or else you might still get a ticket for having a front brake only.

I don't think this has ever happened anywhere.

Scrodzilla 05-03-11 01:48 PM

Unless you've somehow managed to be everywhere all the time, you'll never really know.

ill shoot some shots specifically for the keirin-brake-mount-a-la-homme-dépot later~ meanwhile this can get the discussion started.

*p.s. guys the law says "skid" = think about it, you cant skid if its front only

calv 05-03-11 01:54 PM

Indeed.

Thought I will say I haven't seen it either. I thought I saw a thread somewhere about the laws (I thought it was in this thread, but guess not) of having brakes.

Just to clear things up, forum member carleton is in fact Sisyphus and BF is his rock.

and  gilmatic

chenghiz 05-03-11 02:55 PM

It must suck having cops and judges who're interested in enforcing the letter of the law and not its intent.

I really wanted to try this whole muckybrake thing, but I only have a front brake. So....here's my take on this design; I call it the suckybrake:

took me way too long to figure out what was going on here.

^ Yeah, the mechanic at the bike shop was confused too when I asked him to do the install (best to leave this kind of stuff to the pros)

I just told him "it's a fixie thing, you wouldn't understand"

He charged me $85.00, I think I got a good deal.

plowmanjoe 05-04-11 09:20 AM

how many bikes do you have?

Find an Asian mechanic. He'll understand.
