Do you only ride single speed?
I like to have two bikes around just incase something breaks I'm looking at getting a cross bike for gravel n' such but I'm not sure if I should go geared or not my bike I have now is a single speed.

I have a FG bike, 2 20 spd geared roadies, a SS MTB, and a 2x9 MTB(that are built and rolling). Different situations call for different bikes...at least that's what I keep telling myself.

2 fixed gears and a mtb that I'm slowly disassembling and will be selling to make room for fixed gear #3.

No. I ride SS, FG, and geared road bikes. Sold my mtn. bike and my city bike to make room in the garage for more fixies and roadies. I've been on several group roadie rides where one guy is on his fixed gear and has no trouble keeping up on the hills or the descents. I've ridden my FG only on group rides that advertised a more leisurely pace. What a wuss I am.

hell no. i ride gears and have more fun on them. though i probably go more miles on a fixed gear... had several 50+ days and 100+ weekends lately fixed and only a handful of geared rides over 30 miles. hope to change that. need to start taking track lessons.

On roads, I ride about an even mix of geared and FG. I can't decide which I like better....it depends on the ride, but this time of year I am usually more often riding my roadie long distances and working as many hills into the ride as possible.
Offroad I am about 75% SS and 25% FG. I don't have a geared MTB because I have never felt it necessary most of the time. However, some of the trails around here are really hard with a SS and torture with a FG. The older I get the more I find myself thinking about gears and suspension. Gears would also make it much easier to ride to the trails, rather than drive.

I only ride single speed...I have a fixed gear road and a Monocog for off roading...slowly working my way up on mileage on both of those, but I haven't ridden for a few years. I did 17 last night on the fixed and wasn't that tired, the bike trail just goes through the hood and it was getting dark.
Seriously though, after i got rid of my hardrock for a monocog, I hated, HATED riding gears...once you have the joy of simply riding and not having to worry about shifting or anything, its just way more fun. And fruitful (so then I sold my geared road bike for a fixed gear). I mean when you blow past someone riding gears on your singlespeed, you look like a total badass. And they kind of just look at you like ...how the hell did he just pass me so fast?
Its the most enjoyable cycling i've ever had after more than 10 years of riding gears, I can happily say I've gotten rid of them and haven't regretted it yet.
