Does this SS look decent?

I'm looking for a commuter SS and found this on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Giant-Perigee-Si...item2a108e0a98

What's the max I should bid on it?

BotByte 05-12-11 11:54 PM

Not really

He put in too much work and added a chain tightener for no apparent reason.

$50 for shipping is pretty high.

If I was you, look around Bike Direct for a SS

Also,

HOW DO YOU STOP?!!

It seems to not have brakes on it, yeah I see the caliper in the front, but how does thou use this mystical brake without a cable and lever?

It seems he took a older Giant frame, added a fork that came with a threadless headset, added some worn out wheels to it, made it a SS with a useless chain tensioner, and forgot a working brake set up

$200 is max.

You can always buy some cheap brake levers and some cables

Also, I think it's a 56cm

He's probably measuring from the top of the tubing to the bottom. Honestly a easy mistake.

Agreed, except the part about the shipping cost. How about you tell me how I can ship a bike for less than $50?

I believe that if your going to spend some big $$$, shipping should be included. But that's just me. I've shipped a bike for $30 before. It was slow, but it got there.

Oh, oops. Anyways, who can't finish up a project and sell it for more then you originally?

It's like cleaning what you're going to sell. Who sells anything covered in mud?

I've bought a jeep, off subject here, took it home, cleaned it, and made twice what I put into it.

You must have really good eyes to tell that's a 56 from the little pictures. BTW, it looks like a 58 to me. Stop f------ trolling on every thread... It's getting old.

Here's a bikepedia link to what the frame probably would've been built up with originally: http://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/B...igee&Type=bike

Nothing special really, 25lbs in geared form. Chromoly. Figure a few pounds less depending on how much the components weigh. I'd say bid $150 max, plus the $50 shipping. Since it's not totally done. But if you really like the look of it, I don't think going to $200+ would be terribly unreasonable.

Actually, since it's got the carbon fork now too it could be a pretty nice ride. Could possibly get into the low 20lb range with the right components. Consider asking the seller what it weighs as pictured.

godugr8 05-13-11 06:09 AM

Looks like it has a tensioner because of the vertical drop outs (even I knew that).

I thought the shipping costs looked reasonable (compared to some ridiculously over inflated shipping costs I see on some bikes). If shipping was included, I'm sure people would factor that into their bidding and most likely bid more.

Thanks for all of the advice(except for botbyte, who seems to be borderline retawded). I'll probably just bid a max of $150. thanks.

tFUnK 05-14-11 02:25 AM

In that case, I shall bid $151.

Was it a BMX or child's bike?

wearyourtruth 05-14-11 05:52 AM

it has a chain tensioner because it has shallow drops that usually allow about 1cm of travel or less.

if that's what you want, it's a fine bike. the stem is probably too short, designed for doing tricks, not riding across town, but that's an easy fix, especially if you are already going to have to shell out for brakes.

Leukybear 05-14-11 08:01 AM

Maybe if you filed out the rest of the dropout; you might not need the tensioner....
