converting a fixed gear to a single speed?
hey, everyone. i recently purchased a track bike, it is my first fixed gear bike and i was loving it up until i moved into a very high traffic area. it's pretty stop and go, so i was considering getting a flip flop hub and making it a single speed since i can't seem to avoid stopping frequently. what i wanted to know is if there are any concerns in doing this.

Other than a freewheel, your other concern is stopping yourself. Are your fork and frame drilled for brakes?
Or, in the alternate, do you own any parachutes or do you have giant brontosaurus-burger eating Fred Flinstone feet?

Before trying to "just chuck a freewheel the other side of your hub" you should make sure you have threading for it. Most likely you do, but there is also a decent possibility you cant. Any hub with threading on both sides will take a freewheel.

Thanks, everyone. I do have a front brake. I suppose I'll just have to take it to a shop to find out for sure if a freewheel can be put onto the hub. It is an older track bike, so it might not be threaded on both sides. That's usually how it is, yeah?
