The best RATIO with the most skid patch?

i used to use a 46t chainring on my previous bike but now I'm riding another one with a 49t chainring and i'm having a hard time finding out what size cog to install for a easy ride and most skids. i had no trouble skiddin on a 46t and 16t rear ( i think it was 16t) and i could skid stop like nothing

but right now skid well, i cant as i'm riding a 49t + 18t rear cog.

thanks bikeforum users

All in your head. 49/18 is actually less GI than 46/16, and it has more skid patches.

gear inch

The larger the gear inch, the harder it is to start and stop the bike...including skidding.

So, you should be able to stop/skid your 2nd gear ratio easier than your previous setup, assuming you correctly recalled your first chainring / cog tooth count.

Is there some kind of forum software that will autolock any thread with "skid patch" in the title? There should be.

It's all in your head, bro.

Just make sure your front tooth count and rear tooth count are relatively prime.

or, loosen your wheel and move the chain up a couple teeth on your cog once and a while.

What's the app?

EssEllSee 06-30-11 11:51 AM

Sweet app - running a 17t rear cog will get you a decent amount of skid patches for most front chainring combos

party1234 06-30-11 12:14 PM

I have 48/16. Don't really skid on it, wouldn't recommend skidding with a gear that high.

+1 this.

gilmatic 06-30-11 10:06 PM

I find it hard to skid on a lower gear ratio. I used to ride on a 44-16 and it felt a lot more difficult to skid due to the constant spinning. I couldn't time the skids. I run a 48-16 but I'm thinking of going with a 17t cog and a larger chainring.
