one of the few other fixed gear riders that i know & ride with a little has more money than bike sense (& i would say skillz, but the truth is that i am likely jelly he can afford to buy anything he wants & i can't).
ok...don't ask my why, but he bought a really nice complete track bike yesterday & get this, he also bought carbon wheelset for it. now he just offered to sell me the stock american classics for what seems like a helluva low price - $675, that he said is firm.
checked them out online & they sell for a minimum of $800 & from there they head up to $900 or even $1k.
i don't think they are quite the right style of wheels to go with either of my fg bikes but it's awfully hard to pass up & my thinking is that i could always flip for my cost, or even a small profit at minimum, if i don't want to keep them after trying them.
so my question is...
should i buy that new american classic 420 track wheelset for $675?

Should I pick up a Massi Speciale Fixed complete for $200 cash? It's got the stock components and it looks like a downgraded wheel set, not the same in the stock photos from the same year. I have some extra parts I could throw on it, just sold a specialized Langster and I have been thinking of getting a steel frame for commuting/beater. I'll be running it how it's currently set up as a single speed.
The only flaw seems to be a very small (nickel sized) dent in the top tube.
edit: I ended up picking the bike up. The frame is a little haggard but its purely cosmetic and will do fine for a daily beater/commuter. I think it wasn't the best deal ever but it was decent enough for me to pick it up, I don't think I could have done much better for 2 bills... I was getting tired of riding my SS mountain bike everywhere and didn't really like keeping it locked up for a while. I'll post some pics soon.

Should I swap the parts over from my too small BD Moto Mess to a Nashbar frame, or just ride out on the frame, saving a couple hundred for moving/quitting my job this summer?

Should I save up for a Wabi Lightning for my next fixed gear? I really like light and high quality bikes and the fact that I could probably get it under 15 lbs makes me very happy. Only thing I don't like is the geometry. I really enjoyed the aggressiveness and quick steering of my Rush (75.5d st, 74.5d ht, 40mm rake, 58mm bbd) and the Wabi is pretty relaxed (73.5d st, 72.5d ht, 45mm rake, 62mm bbd). For that reason it's kind of hard to get really excited about riding one. I just really like what you get for the pricepoint and people seem to recommend them for anyone that wants more than a Kilo. Anybody that's ridden a Lightning care to chip in on if it's as fun to ride as a bike with track geo?
