Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

maybe his truck was getting serviced and he rode his bike to pick it up?

and, really, i don't give a monkey what anybody else does with their bike. unless he was dragging it by a chain down the street behind his truck. then i would probably stare, point, and scratch my head.

Update, I saw the guy this morning on the way to the library, riding. He was not amused when i asked him where his derailer was. Chunky looking older guy in college sports apparel. I guess he must have just gotten it. When he came to the intersection he turned left on to the sidewalk and went half a block waiting for traffic so he could cross. Oh, coffee shops have girls, my house, unfortunetely, does not.

was he being a snob and thinking that you really didn't understand why he had no derailer? or did he realize you understood fixers but he just didn't want to play along?

and what were you riding?

(bored at work)

I'm pretty sure he thought I was just some smart @ss kid, oh wait, I am. He didn't stop and explain anything, which is what i would have done if someone would have said that to me. I want as many people to know the wonders of the fixey. I think its cool that hes doing it, but hes got the $600, all chrome pista set up from the shop in salem. I've drooled over his bike several times. dam, i wish he would have turned around, but like i said, he still hasn't figured out the stopping thing yet, it appears. I will get my bike back from the bastard who stole it and show this guy how to track stand and wait for traffic.

I, unfortunetly, was walking. No bikey, no ridey. I've grown tired of riding my tandem everywhere. I thought it would help with the ladies....no dice. So im turning my newly dumpstered centurion on to a ss until i can get some flow for a real bike. what do you think of centurions.

Abou 2 weeks ago it got stolen off of my friends porch, it somehow wasn't locked. I had gotten home around 3 in the morning, put it on the porch went to bed. When i got up some hours later it was gone. I had assumed that some dumbass frat boy stole it and rode it home. I fully expected to see it in the next couple of days. this is a pretty small town and everyone knows that bike. After some serious searching i was beginning to have my doubts. I had resorted myself to temping my centurion as a ss. I got a phone call from my friend laura yesterday telling me she saw a flyer saying something like, found fixed gear/trackstyle bicycle, call to describe. I called him and described it to the last chip in the paint. I honestly screamed like a little girl when he said it was mine, i was on the bus. I asked him where i could meet him to get the bike. He asked where i was and even rode the ****ing thing over to me. Super nice guy, interested in fixies, wants to build one. I said i would gladly help him anyday. I am thinking i need to buy him a case of beer or something.
I think the bastard who stole it couldn't figure out how to ride it and ditched it on the side of the road. Poor poor bicycle. we live around a lot of frats.
