Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? TT bars

I see from the photos there a lot of bikes set up with time trial bars- bull horn type. Is there an advantage to this over a road bar?

Bikes: I built the Bianchi track bike back up today.

More likely to maim pedestrians.

And something about skidding. I use drops these days, so I'm not really sure...

Bikes: Titus road, Fort CX

and I just open-hand slap pedestrians. It really lets them know you hate them.

You know you'd use these if you had them.

Bikes: Public D8, Yuba Mundo (cargo), Novara Buzz (1-speed, soon to be 2-speed w/ a kickback hub), Xootr 1-speed folder

Yeah - skidding. Some folks (I among them) like to be able to throw our weight forward onto downturned palms when we skid. Bullhorns are good for this. Also, they look fresh.

How do those attach to the stem?

I just like the look on a fixed gear. At the speed I ride, aerodynamics certainly isn't an issue.

Bikes: merck, 'dale, soma track, tcr road, lemond road

historically, rumour has it that messengers in london used them as they were more comfortable than track bars and offered more hand positions...

this was when they were all riding fixie funny bikes...

after riding both lopro and drops (including track specific), i'd err towards lopros for messenger work/day to day riding and track drops for stylee. innit.

my favorites are the dark grey mavics. my lady swears by nitto 19's (not the other ones which are poo). some of my german friends like syntace, whilst profile have been very popular in london for the3 last few years.

then again, what looks best on ya iron?

Just got my TT bars and another idea sprang up, do you think I could modify them into a ****ional set of 12 gauge shotgun tubes? Should I go full-choke or modified?

skeet-choke provides a much broader pattern. Only effective within 20 or 30 yards though.

perhaps a left-hand skeet with right hand modified for versatility?
