Solid Color Tires
 

I am currently building a new bike and am looking for red tires, no black stripe, minimal lettering, etc. Anyone know a good set for under $50 a tire and where I could buy online? Thanks!

Those are the tires State Bicycle Co. uses/sells. They're pretty damn decent for being so incredibly cheap. Better compound than the Kendas on my Kilo FOSHO

The problem with Fyxation is that they don't offer the solid red that the OP wants.

Not so sure about the CSTs. I would consider trying them if I can't find anything else but I want a good tire.

Tejano, that link is close, but those have a black strip before it gets red. I want the red to meet the rim, I also have red rims and want it to be one solid color. The rear wheel on this IRO is what I am going for.

Whaaa? Has Soma always made those multi colored tires? Last time I checked they only had black. I love my Everwears, those puppies have lasted through so much skidding and never given me a problem.

LOL so many people on this forum are so elitist, it's hard to tell what its for, helpng people answer questions or trading passive agressive comments. Can't hate that tho, I'd probably be a dick if I knew all about bikes too. I'm Definitely not looking for a "fashion accessory". Quality and style should not be mutually exclusive. And don't take my being particular as a sign that I'm only interested in having a bike that looks good. I can tell there is a sort of collective anxiety from the veterans here that don't want to see their sport ruined by wannabe hipsters, I can totally understand that. But I ride my bike because I love to ride, love the challenge and control of a fixed gear and because I have a job that I need to get to. I appreciate genuine help in this but if you can't help the pointless comments, no worries.

Are Gran Compes just way over-prced tires then? I've been riding Michelin tires that cost approx $40 a tire and they are great.

A solid color tire will be softer and quicker wearing than a tire with a black stripe, no matter what. So by choosing a solid colored tire you are choosing style over function. Even companies that make solid colored tires will tell you that. This is from fyxations site.

"Colored tires are not new, but have been growing in popularity. Because colored tires do not contain carbon black, they are softer than black tires and therefore wear faster and can offer greater traction. Currently the Session 700 is made in black, white, green, pink and orange so you can pick your own flavor. However, because the colored versions of the Session 700 do not contain carbon black and are by nature a softer tire it is not recommended to use them as a skidding tire."

That red rim/tire combo is hideous though :O

I think those may be new for 2011, and they are "Super Everwears" with even more durability and puncture resistance. They are one of the few "skid rated" tires out there. The downside is that they are somewhat heavy and have poor traction in wet conditions. I got Fyxations instead because they are lighter and I'm not into skidding much.

I would buy everwears again in a heartbeat. Never gave me any issues and are tough as nails. Solid tire, although now that I think of it they were super slick in rain.

From what I have heard, the older Soma Everwears had a sidewall stripe that was colored. For the new Super Everwear, the entire tire is now colored and they may have fixed the weak sidewall issue.

I am somewhat of a Continental fanatic, after experiencing that an Ultra Sport has twice the life of a Vittoria Rando. I wanted to recommend the red Ultra Sport, but I believe it has a black 'edge.' As a result, TT's Soma Super Everwear takes the cake.

I apologize for any comments I made that were perceived offensive. It is my philosophy that there is nothing wrong with choosing components for look, as long as it makes you want to ride it more. I don't hate for that sort of thing.

redpear, I have also ridden the Continental Ultra Sport and had a great experince with them. If it comes down to it I may use something like that for the back tire.

I may be wrong, but I think those are Everwares and not Super Everwears.

redpear mentioned that and I wanted to see if I could find those. All I could find so far are all black.

It's more of a rubber quality and design issue as well. Mine cracked in 2 months. Still running it as a rear until it explodes because I'm determined to get more life out of a $50 tire. Plus I have presumbly 4 mm+ of thread thickness left.

Well, the whole question is currently moot for me, as I can't find any colored tires in my size (32). Oh well ... :-)

maybe I'm just not seeing it, but any specific pointers may help not only myself, but others w/wider tires that are looking for colored tires.

$20 for 2. I have a pair of the blue ones on a beater coaster brake bike that I play polo with sometimes and they're good enough. Not recommended for skidding, though...

I have a pair of these in solid red (Duro Speedy Arrow). They suck REALLY BAD. Lumpy, thick beads that do not fit well on narrow rims, heavy. Anyone who wants the pair that I have (ridden a few miles on rollers, never on the street) can pick them up FREE (if you get here before the garbage truck).

The regular everwear comes in all the colors, but i do notice it now lists the psi at 110, when it used to be 150 max. I run my tires at a much higher psi than most people though I guess, so that shouldn't be an issue for most

Also: The soma now comes in 32c, although I'm not sure which of their colors they are offering for that size
