Abou 2 weeks ago it got stolen off of my friends porch, it somehow wasn't locked. I had gotten home around 3 in the morning, put it on the porch went to bed. When i got up some hours later it was gone. I had assumed that some dumbass frat boy stole it and rode it home. I fully expected to see it in the next couple of days. this is a pretty small town and everyone knows that bike. After some serious searching i was beginning to have my doubts. I had resorted myself to temping my centurion as a ss. I got a phone call from my friend laura yesterday telling me she saw a flyer saying something like, found fixed gear/trackstyle bicycle, call to describe. I called him and described it to the last chip in the paint. I honestly screamed like a little girl when he said it was mine, i was on the bus. I asked him where i could meet him to get the bike. He asked where i was and even rode the ****ing thing over to me. Super nice guy, interested in fixies, wants to build one. I said i would gladly help him anyday. I am thinking i need to buy him a case of beer or something.

fixinskitchin 11-17-04 03:15 PM

I'll bet that thats what happened. Somtimes i just want to leave my bike and stand nearby to see what happens to the guy who tries to nab it. But i worry that with fixies as popular as trucker caps, some trucker cap my ride away with it.

The Tojan-enz picture. I finally got it, had them sitting side by side looked at ever detail, except for one. then i busted up laughing

Wasn't really intended to denigrate community colleges, just making the assumption that those that attend community colleges are probably a bit less likely to be rich kids attending on Mom & Dad's dime than are those that attend the local, private university. Harder to fleece them for $400 on a $50 bike if they're buying it with their *own* money ;).

very true about the Mission. since when are YOU riding through the Mission? stop by and say hi!

sometimes i feel like we're gonna have some kind of Mission fixed gear gang war. track vs. conversion? brakes vs. brakeless? trucker hats vs. helmets? east side of Valencia vs. west side of Valencia?

either way, they'll never catch me...

not may other parts of town allow for hipster-fixies (cause they actually have hills most everywhere else). as much as love the mission, and plan to move there pretty soon, we all know the hipster pimpification of the past few years.

i know a whole house of single-speeder guys who live way the hell up on top of nob hill and ride up and down it a couple times a day, none of which own a single car. way too cool for me.
