I was watching TV a second ago and some spot came on with a couple riding bikes in slow motion...the guy's riding what I'm sure is a fix, with bullhorns. Oh, and a messenger bag, of course. Its a public service announcement for aids testing or something. The fixed gear fad is now mainstream...someone's gonna make a lot of money, too!
|
Wait a sec. When did riding a fixed gear put you in a high risk category for aids? Or is it wearing a messenger bag that causes high risk?
Where did I put that derailler? |
You're making me insecure about my hipsterdom.
|
I think we are all missing the issue here:
I can't find my other shoe anywhere. |
It's the sake, man.

I ran out. I took NyQuil to sleep tonight. Waiting...for...it...to...kick...in

did truckers get upset when Ashton Kutcher & company began sporting those ****** plastic/poly hats?
oops, no swearing. |
This probably isn't a good time to mention my new (to me) vintage Pierre Cardin blazer...
|
I dont think riding a fixed gear will be too much of fad for many people. It requires some physical fitness and coordination, which for many people is too much of an effort.
But on the bright side, higher parts availability and more innovation! |

No point in whining when that fratboy, the one that just last week was yelling at me to "Get a car!", shows up at the local watering hole on his hip new fixie. I'll just slide up to the bar, tell him how cool his bike is, and let drop that my "messenger friend" got a desk-job and wants to unload about six of his old, work-bikes, in case he knows anyone that wants one, for the low, low price of $400. He doesn't need to know that I just bought the whole lot of 'em for $50 at the police auction and all I did was yank the brakes, rebuild the wheel with a cheapass track hub, and cut the drops off. Or that I'm going to repeat that same schtick in every hip-hangout within a 20-mile radius. Neither do all his lemming friends who will be rushing forth with Daddy's cash in hand, to hop on the bandwagon. Work on 'em in the evenings after work, could probably churn out about 5 or 6 a week. Three universities and at least as many community-colleges (might have to lower the price there) all within' 20 miles. I could have a nice bit of supplemental income until this trend flames out. Time to hit the police auction. Now where can I find a bunch of track hubs and cogs dirt-cheap... -Trevor |

oops, no swearing. As a born & raised resident of Iowa, I can tell you that Ashton did not start that trend. "The kids" here have been sporting that style long before he was around. Owning a John Deere hat is a matter of family honor. |

Hollywood is slow at exploitsing subcultures, by the time it hits the mainstream, the founders of the styles have usallly moved on! leaving the posers in public eye... |

white fixed gear or single speed-prob fixed as didn't see any brakes, flashed through an outdoor scene on NYPD Blue last night....

the only way bikes, let alone fixies, would become a fad here in SE North Carolina is if they were made out of pork and looked like a Hummer.
Btw, I'm newly fixed thanks to you guys and the fixed gear gallery and it's the greatest thing since sliced pie. |
