Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Introduction

Hi All:

My name is Jules and I am from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. I am 51 and enjoy cycling but only for fitness, commuting (30k/day) and the joy of exploring the region in which I live.

I am considering a move to an SS but would like to try to do it on the cheap. I used to have a nice 18sp ~$900 bianchi (beautiful bright lemon yellow) but I got rid of it years ago (kicking myself now).

I will be looking for information and advice on building an SS so expect to see my questions popup.

The reference to my 18sp Bianchi was that I had a nice frame, brakes, bb, crank, wheels from which to start the conversion to SS.

I wasn't referring to you, but taking a swipe at the vw guy for his jerk remark. You are most welcome here and the majority of forum members will be friendly and helpful.

You not recognizing my irony makes you even less ironic than the very notion of irony itself.
