Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Fixed in Houston

What is the best LBS for fixed gear/track equipment in the Houston area? I am guessing it would be Boone but I haven't been there in a while. Any others? Thanks

Boone Cycles can definately help you out, they're a solid shop with insight into all things technical re: cycling. They are a bit pricey but you're paying for exceptional experience and know how and that's always worth a few bucks more. I know Jeff and Joy professionally and if they or their mechanics don't know what you need it hasn't been invented yet. Plus they'll tell you if they can't help you instead of faking it and doing you wrong. Good People. Also now one of the closest shops to downtown with the recent demise of Shirars.

If they don't suit you then try Bikesport out near Alabama and ...Edloe or Timmons. I've met those guys a few times over the years and they're topnotch as well. Also a wrench there named Zack I know has experience riding fixed both track and street.

Thanks! I forgot about Bikesport. I bought my first good bike from them, a Cannondale, back when they were Bikes & Backpacks on Weslyn.

Jeez, i can't believe I forgot about Dan, he's actually the only guy who has ever worked on my fixies in Houston. Last time I lived there Zack was messing and Dan was right up the street so I used him exclusively. Though if he doesn't have a part you need, Boones can definately hook you up.

when I was in Houston looking for a track bike, the only place I could find that had any at all was Pro Cycles on S. Shepherd (they had a really sweet Davidson frame and a complete fully chromed Falcon, in my size, plus some other bikes in other sizes, if I remember right), the shop owner/only guy working there was really cool too.
