Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I started work on fixie number six today.

I bought a Miyata model One Ten for $20 this morning and did the basic strip down on it this evening.
It has a dark blue fading to white up front paint job with yellow lettering. I replaced the old bar tape with Serfas in a blue and white marble pattern. The 27" wheels will be replaced with custom built Mavic OR10 tubular rims, a Mavic front hub, and a Dura Ace track hub. The gearing will be a 52x19t (74 inches.)
I'll take pictures of this one and two others to add to three already on Dennis Larson's fixed-gear gallery.

Congratulations! I have been resisting the urge to build up more than one fixed gear. So do you ride them all? Sell them? I want to build up others, but I don't know what I would do with them. To satisfy my bike building lust, I am going to build a single speed cyclocross bike.

I ride them all. Five of the six have different gearing ranging from 42x16t to 52x16t.
I hardly ride my geared bikes anymore. I'm rehabing a broken shoulder and this is my
second build since the crash. I'm having a wheel built that will look good on the Miyata.
The Mavic OR10 rims are gold anodized and weigh in a 340 grams. The rear spoke pattern
will be really sweet. Look at the first wheel under "Other Designs." This is a 32 spoke
2 Leading 2 Trailing design with 2X Spokes. https://www.terminalvelocity.demon.co.uk/WheelBuild/

The frame is made with Miyata Special Tubing. Does anyone know anything about this?
I'm thinking it's their version of good quality Columbus or True Temper.
