cog and lockring question
I HAVE A SINGLE SPEED BIKE THAT I HAVE BOUGHT A NEW CRANK FOR AND NOW I NEED TO BUY A COG.
THE QUESTION IS 1.CAN I USE THE LOCKRING THATS WITH THE BIKE AND PRESENT LOCKRING OR DO i NEED A LOCKRING SPECIFIC TO THE COG. 2. I WAS LOOKING INTO BUYING A SURLY COG BUT I NEVER SEE ANY LOCKRINGS FOR SALE. ON E-BAY THAT IS. 3. I'M NOT USING THE BIKE AS A FIXED GEAR, I DON'T KNOW IF THAT MAKES ANY DIFFERENT ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT, SORRY FOR ANY ERRORS OR SPELLING MISTAKES OR WRONG TERMINOLOGY. |
If you're not using the bike as a fixed gear then why do you need a cog and lockring? Take some time and read some of the sticky's at the top of the page and acquaint yourself with what parts are what.

Why do you need a new cog? Do you mean chainring?
You will get more responses if you don't type in all caps. Most sane people do not enjoy reading text in all caps. |
sorry for the caps..easier for me to see...yes I want a new cog the one that came with the bike is cheap stamped metal. i thought if I'm going to replace the crank and chainring I might as well replace the cog also. I hope its called a cog on the freewheel side
I didn't know that I would not need a lockring if I didn't use it as a fixed gear. Thats why I wrote and asked for help. thanks for the help. |
it's a freewheel

If it's on the freewheel side then you need a freewheel.
