Jimmytango, I will back you up on the bourbon plus good ginger ale. This bar I go to after work does Bulleit with the Goose Island ginger beer and it's amazing.
I've been drinking bourbon and rye whiskey lately- but it's getting to be scotch (Lagavulin 16yr) weather soon. Beer wise, I'm really into sour ales right now. New Glarus does one called Cran-Bic that is awesome. |
Red Dog and Camo Ice 40's. Keepin it real cheap.

As a college student (also underage) I try to balance enjoying my beer and saving money.
Currently, I'm going through some Newcastle Brown Ale. |
I liked the Blue Moon I just had. Nomz. My favorite thus far.
jdg - Where can one find Pliny? |
Hot cocoa; I have too much of an addictive personality to trust myself with alcohol. Pain pills and other opiates got me into a lot of financial problems in the past.

Some awesome spiced rooibos my friend brought me...

High Life. forever high life, if Ive got some money to spend though guiness or freestate Copperhead ale (local brew)
|
Finally a topic I can really get behind.
Could it be stickied and labeled "dear fastB"? I've seen some good suggestions in here but you are all forgetting the bartender's best friend.... rumpleminz ...the only thing you can drink that doubles as mouthwash |
I hate mixed drinks and I'm not a big fan of beer. I love Mickey's malt liquor, Sailor Jerry's rum, and sometimes a Blue Moon or Shock Top. Miller High Life is always on sale at my local market so I always have some in the fridge. Also I enjoy warm sake on a regular basis, and tequila on occasion. Used to drink whiskey, but after a bad night of mixing Black Velvet with Oxycontin, whiskey has not been enjoyable for me. I'd much rather smoke than drink anyways.

Lately I've been drinking a lot of Smithwicks. Its great stuff. |
Jack and sweet tea is great too. Can't really even smell/taste the whiskey, which is great for on-campus

If you like whiskey try the new Jim Beam Devil's Cut. It's tasty. When they age whiskey in barrels the part that evaporates they call the angels' share. The part trapped in the wood of the barrels is called the devil's cut. I believe it's 92 proof as well so it's a bit stronger than usual.
If you get an opportunity to try O'Fallon's Pumpkin Stout, take it because it's one of my favorite fall seasonal beers. Hints of pumpkin but not overpowering. And Scrod if you have access to fresh mint you should try drinking some mint juleps, the official drink of the kentucky derby. They are quite a bit stronger than mojitos and just as refreshing. If you can't find a satisfactory recipe online let me know and I will hook you up. |

I'll keep my eye out for that Pumpkin stout. I had a pumpkin ale a long time ago and they can be really good. Any other recommendations?
Living in L.A., good (and cheap) liquor isn't that hard to find. Hard A: Cognac - Courvoisier VS, mainly because it drops to under $20 around here. I really want to try Remy VSOP, but it's $35 a pop. Scotch - Buchanan's is a nice alternative to JW Black, which is my friends' go-to scotch. Vodka - Sobieski, a nice, clean $12 Polish vodka. Stay away from overpriced and overhyped brands like GG, Belvedere, etc. Beer: Try to support craft beers. I try to stay away from the big names now, even your typical imports and microbrews like Heine, Blue Moon, Newcastle, etc. They're not bad at all, I'm just trying to support craft beers. These are just some I've tried recently (btw, I can't stand any type of IPA): Bear Republic Stout – Good Young’s Double Chocolate Stout - Good North Coast Old no. 38 stout - good Belhaven Wee Heavy Scotch ale – really good Cable Car Lager - decent Big names: Boddington's pub ale is great. Murphy's stout is right up there with Guinness. Red Stripe is pretty good. Sometimes a Corona with lime is just perfect. Blue Moon with orange. Sam Adams Light, Holiday Porter and Chocolate Bock. Widmer Hef Pyramid Apricot Ale That's all I can remember right now. If you haven't tried a good scotch ale, I'd recommend it. In the fridge, waiting: Ninkasi Double Red Ale Stone Smoked Porter He’Brew Pomegranate Ale Samuel Smith Organic Ale Wine: I don't know anything about wine, but I'll drink it if someone has it. |
