One of my favorite IPAs right there. I actually started getting into IPA after trying Union Jack

Was meeting someone to buy their bike trunk rack and conveniently chose to meet outside the Forecaster's Pub / Red Hook Brewery in Woodinville.

I definitely showed up early to grab a quick IPA at the bar before getting the rack.

i did. my buddy is a vodka geek and had us try it. it was good, but not enough to touch my faves.

Mickeys, PBR and High Life. And I'm not even a hipster

Vodka is vodka. I would never spend money on anything more than Smirnoff. I've been to Russia where the supermarket had entire aisle of vodka and I guarantee you that I could not taste any difference in flavor profiles.

SpeshulEd 08-01-13 12:04 AM

I usually get the kirkland brand vodka.

However, if I'm out, I usually grab titos because it's cheaper than the other premiums and pretty tasty.

I haven't tried the Kirkland vodka, but I've heard its decent for the value. I wouldn't know the difference though - I almost strictly drink an IPA or whiskey.

The kirkland in the red tall squarish bottle tastes just like Grey Goose. I couldn't tell them apart in a blind taste test.

They have a new one in a blue short round bottle that I haven't tried yet. It says "american vodka" on it, so I'm wondering if it'll taste like titos. Need to open it and find out.

Just downed a nice cold Orval to go with some hand tossed pizza. Damn I forgot what a great beer that is!

Got a call from my mom today, my grandfather is on death watch and I'm basically on-call to fly back to the east coast. Determined to polish off this bottle of Dark Horse Canadian whisky thinking about the old guy and wondering if I'll make it back before he goes.

Sorry to hear, man!

Currently having a Deschutes Obsidian Stout. I participated in IPA day earlier with an Elysian Immortal IPA

I was never able to enjoy a drink with my old man, let alone my grandpa. So I'm doing it virtually with you lot. I like both IPA and stout. Were they overly bitter (the current trend du jour) or palatable?

The IPA wasn't much to write home about. The Obsidian Stout on the other hand has been one of my favorite beers. It has the richest dark chocolatey and espresso notes. It doesn't necessarily taste like coffee but it's that same "kick back with a warm cup of black coffee" bold wave of flavor and aroma. Not sure if you can get it up in Canada, but if you come down to Bellingham it's all over the place. Do you venture south often? I live right across the border and it seems like there are more cars from BC than WA on the roads at times.

Not often, but if I know there is someone to meet, I now have reason to venture south of the border. Given that I'm in Vancouver, Bellingham is a nice weekend destination. I'll advise you anytime I plan to make a border crossing for sure. You sound like the kind of guy who has an intelligent opinion on beers. :)
