wow their website needs a different background color. My eyes.

Scrodzilla 05-25-12 05:25 PM

Yeah, their site sucks. They do great work though.

hamfoh 05-26-12 03:32 PM

scrod you say a traditional starnut should never be installed in a carbon steerer on the leader fork page, I'm guessing that's a non issue if the steerer is aluminum? and does the same apply to all carbon steerers (dodici doesn't come with the same warning is why I ask).

Scrodzilla 05-26-12 04:22 PM

It's perfectly okay with aluminum but you should never - EVER - use a starnut on any carbon steerer.

Can you recommend grips for risers that don't get all gross, my ourys are nasty and deteriorating.

Also, have you ever had interest in mountain bikes?

I've always just cleaned them with dish soap. Shines them up like new. The ends will always fall apart after a year or so.. They're just something you have to replace after awhile.

craigcraigcraig 05-26-12 08:27 PM

get better grips.

Scrodzilla 05-26-12 08:44 PM

I really like Ourys but they definitely don't last long because the oils from your hands breaks them down really quickly. A'ME grips are awesome and last a long time.

Mountain bikes don't interest me at all.

FakeFuji 05-26-12 08:48 PM

If you put bar plugs in before you slip the pity's on it helps

Dannihilator 05-26-12 08:49 PM

And half the price of oury's.

Except for A'me's $200 heated grips.

If you don't have bar plugs, tape a nickel to the end of your bars before putting on your grips. Old trick I learned as a BMX kid in the 80s.

hamfoh 05-26-12 09:57 PM

which do you like more, your a23s to novatecs or your h+son to suzue

Scrodzilla 05-26-12 09:59 PM

I'd have to lean toward the TB14/Suzues but I think it may just be an aesthetic thing.

Nagrom_ 05-26-12 10:06 PM

How do your novatecs ride? gimme the details.

I'm not really someone who notices a huge difference from one sealed-bearing track hub to another. They're light, but a lightweight hub really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things when it comes to wheels because it's not rotational weight. I like them better than the Phil Wood hub I had before that would slip forward every ten minutes and they've required zero maintenance. They're smooth but the bearings in my Suzues spin for a lot longer when my bike is up in the work stand.

Do you know if they're forged or machined? Have you noticed, or do you know, the thickness of the flanges?

Scrodzilla 05-26-12 10:21 PM

I believe they're machined. I'd have to measure the flange thickness.

Just curious if they'd be able to handle a radial front.

Scrodzilla 05-26-12 10:23 PM

The spec sheet I have says they can.

yummygooey 05-26-12 10:25 PM

Novatecs are great, IMO, especially for the price. Even more especially 'cuz they're on sale at RG.

yummygooey 05-26-12 10:25 PM

And I have a 32h radially laced Novatec front hub, fwiw.

I've heard you shouldn't radially lace machined hubs, but I trust you more than internets. lol.

Nagrom_ 05-26-12 10:28 PM

Also, thanks for all the input guys.

Scrodzilla 05-26-12 10:30 PM

They may very well be forged. I just assumed they were machined but could find out for sure.
