I have Odyssey Twisted pedals and Retrogression straps on my bike. I've recently noticed that, after riding for a mile or two, my foot has slid forward in the pedal a bit. Slightly past the ball of my foot and more towards the arch. Is this a result of my setup (seat too far forward, etc...), or should I just get grippier shoes? My past bikes have always had toe clips, so have never experienced this issue before.

Tighten the straps.

Do you prefer pedals & straps or toe clips? Why?

In all honesty, my biggest peeve has more to do with online customers who can't take two minutes to read the FAQ page before e-mailing us. If you saw the amount of dumb, unnecessary e-mails I have to deal with every morning, you'd be blown away.

Is there a specific reason, or is it just what you've always used? I originally chose to build my bike with bmx pedals and straps because I find myself constantly having to adjust the straps on the toeclips/straps I have on my geared bike. I feel like it would be even harder to adjust midride when your foot can't stop moving.

BMX pedals & velcro straps work well but I prefer clips and straps aesthetically and it's just what I've always used. I have no trouble at all adjusting my straps while moving.

I always have some variation of Vans on, and I pretty much never adjust my straps at all. Are y'all adjusting your straps really that much?

I like my straps to be pretty tight while I'm riding, as they should be.

I don't adjust my retrogression straps much (obviously never when riding), but that's why I went that route. On my geared bike that has toe clips and straps I usually tighten and loosen them before I insert/remove my foot.

Only one person talking about it.

Ain't that hard to stop your bike for 5 seconds and adjust your straps when needed.

The reason why I haven't tried them is I've always adjusted/tightened my straps when my foot is in the pedal, which seems like it might be hard when you can't stop pedaling.

I must be missing something here.

1. Adjust your straps before you ride.
2. Ride

If straps loosen, see step 1. What's the problem?

On my road bike that has toe clips/straps I keep the straps loose when not riding. When I put my foot in the pedal I reach down and pull the straps nice and tight. When I'm done riding or have to stop for some reason, I reach down and loosen the strap to get my foot out. My point is this entire procedure seems like it would be more difficult when I can't stop pedaling, which is why I went the route of platforms and retrogression straps. If you don't tighten/loosen your toe clips/straps when you insert or remove your foot then you obviously won't have this potential problem.

I can see wanting to coast to be able to loosen the strap so you have time before you have to pull out.

Ah I see. You strap down super tight. Seems like it would get uncomfortable if it's that tight though.

I've never found it uncomfortable, in fact I kind of liked the feeling of having my foot pressed against the pedals. I usually only ride my geared bike on bike trails though, so rarely have to deal with the issue of stopping mid ride.

Didn't you also post recently saying your feet slide forward on your pedals?

Yes, which is why I asked you about toe clips. I was explaining the logic behind my original decision to go with bmx pedals and straps. Now I'm starting to question my decision since my feet have been sliding forward in my pedals.

I've ridden with velcro straps and have never had that problem. As I said before, your straps are likely too loose.
