I'm looking to invest in some new drops for city riding. Track drops aren't ideal cause i have to keep my hand close to the stem, most of the tie my hand is on the flat part right before the bend of my current road drops. When i do ride in the drops, i would like for the handlebars not to hit my forearms. Do you know of any model handlebars that are like a track/road hybrid? thanks

Compact drops if you've got a 31.8 stem, Nitto Noodles if you've got a 26.0 stem.

Soma has new compact drops for 26mm stems. Figures, just as soon as I upgrade to B176 for shallow drops, they do this.

Dear Scrod.

This question is too embarrassing for the forum: I was trying to remove my Miche BB and I think I stripped the splines in the cups! I was using the same tool I installed them with, Park BB5. They just were not budging so I put a pipe on the end of my wrench to increase leverage and slllliiippppp! Is there a way to remove the BB still or is it going to be a permanent fixture in my frame?

Next time don't use so much of the force.

The BBT-5 sucks because there's no real way to secure it to your spindle like when using a 2" bolt with the BBT-22. I have a feeling you may have been turning it the wrong way though...

No.

Nope, I was turning the correct way... Ive serviced many BBs on my various bikes, but mostly loose ball style and shimano cartridges. This miche was weird, both cups are free and to prevent loosening I used a dab of blue loctite. That might have been what screwed me. Well, at least its a pretty nice BB so it should last a few more years.

For what it's worth, I hate Miche BBs.

Why do you ride brakeless? I'm sure you've gotten this question a lot, but I'm just curious.

Also, does Beverly have lots of hills?

I ride brakeless because I like riding brakeless. I've also found that running more gear inches actually makes riding without brakes easier on my legs.

There aren't many hills here at all and the ones that are on the more serious side are very easy to go around.

What chains do you use? I just got a free KMC K710. I've seen 710s (or the 710sl) around the forums and I'm curious if you have used them.

The K710 "Kool" chain was made as a grind-resistant bmx chain that would put up with tricks like the sprocket stall that would eat up normal chains:

The K710 was really heavy. Like 50% heavier than a normal chain. Mostly because the chain plates were enlarged for strength. They were much bigger than the standard hourglass style:

It's a really strong, remarkably quiet, and inexpensive chain. It has something like a break force of 3,000lbs. When I last bought one it was $17 and I could get it from any local bike shop that had even the most minor selection of BMX parts. Compare that to the other strongest chain on the scene the $80 (plus shipping) Izumi V Super Toughness that is special order only.

The K710 came stock on the first series of complete Pista Concepts in 2005.

The only complaints that I can imagine being said is that it's heavy and that the links are hard to remove using a basic chain breaker (because the plates are so beefy). But the latter is a one-time problem. So, to address the former problem, they lightened it up a bit with the K710SL (super light) which is just as strong.

The K710 and K710SL are nice chains. I've used the K710 and I think I still have one in my tool box. By the way, the K810 and K810SL are the same chain but with 3/32" width.
