Crazy.

It seems to me that Waterford would be too expensive for this... No?

eurotrash666 11-30-04 02:10 PM

the wisconsin frame has cable braze-ons, a drilled brake bridge, and road geometry. i'd say the only thing that makes it better than the iro is it's steel instead of aly. otherwise, i think it's apples and apples.

yeah, that was my inital impression. but Wisconsin->Waterford was the first thought that came into my head.
you can get a Gunnar street dog for about $725. now replace the fancy OX Platinum tubing with good ol' 4130. Replace the sweet sweet Waterford paint with cheap ass powdercoat, then maaaaaaybe it makes sense.

Well, who else builds frames in Wisconsin? I thought they only made cheese.

And beer.

Could it be the ex-Trek employee who got nixed for drinking on the job? Seriously though, it's nice to see something with an iota of practicality for once! (I knew even before I opened the link that it was this frame, too)

By the way, orange would look good with your complexion. ;)

2speedfiend 11-30-04 05:00 PM

I just got one. They are new - just available last week. Serial number indicates they are Waterford's - Ben's confirmed it. Blows away the Tawain made frames in quality. Yeah, it's got braze-ons - it's a singlespeed/fixed gear road bike, not a Track Bike. The orange powdercoat is a sweet color.
I first seen these at a local 'Cross race where Russell from Ben's was racing one - try that on the Bianchi Pista.

I win!

schwinnbikelove 11-30-04 06:48 PM

Forget about fenders. ;) I just looked again, and there's no sort of chainstay bridge. Does anyone think that'd lead to problems? (but then again, it IS a Waterford...)
For cyclocrossing, I'd want something that took at least a 35c. Hmm.....

bostontrevor 11-30-04 07:14 PM

Oh damn... $350 for a Waterford frame. I almost want one. Ok, I do want one.

But I don't have the money and I like my current frame and I want a steeper geometry, not slacker.... Relax. Breath deeply.

That orange is dead sexy (which I guess is why my bike's orange). And for the record, it *does* look good with my complexion.

A3rd.Zero 11-30-04 07:24 PM

Actually it fills a gap. Jamie Roy is Alu, Mark V is track, this is Steel and Road. Cool. Ill stick with my Jamie Roy cause I have no dislikes, if Im going to get another bike its going to be a Tommasini.

i wish i wasn't as drunk as i am right now. frozen jackfruit daquiri... so there are three bikes being dicussed here, in this thread... i like the crazy lugged road frame the best.
that chrome thing from the 1940's(?) is sick. i wish the person with the cat avatar would stop creating so much desire in me. i am tempted to bid because have a crazy LBS here in town that would solve any quandry and 54cm is my size. oh does it feel nice.

hmmm,
on second glance, alcohol makes anything look good.

and anybody sound dumb(erer), even if hey started out dumb.

hic...

check the price and time left on this one!!!!!!!

How coud there be a bid of 127.50 (Sixday) with nine bids and when you check out the bid history not have 127.5o listed? Other sixday bids and the winning $315.87, but not that one.

What am i missing?

baxtefer 11-30-04 11:12 PM

you're missing this:

Only actual bids (not automatic bids generated up to a bidder's maximum) are shown.

i think i know what your talking about there, was no bid for 127.50 listed. sounds like a vagely interesting question, how the ebay bidding system works.

Just curious.

bostontrevor 12-01-04 09:12 AM

Let's say bidder A is currently winning with a bid of $126.50. Bidder B comes along and sets their max at $350. This is enough to beat bidder A's bid with a bid of $127.50, which you saw. In comes bidder C and says their max is $314.87, so bidder's B's bid gets bumped up to $315.87, beating C's bid, staying under their bid cap of $350, and taking the auction. You don't see $127.50 because their bid ended up getting increased automatically. It wasn't really a bid to begin with, more of a provisional bid.

that's what I said.

I know.

San Rensho is not from Tiawan. It is from Japan. 3Rensho was now way that low on the charts of frame builders.

oh yeah, and putting stickers on a taiwan frame in the US makes it "made in US"

check this out:

nono..thats a misunderstanding. I was refering to the orange bike in the first post as possibly
being a taiwan welded frame with some US finishing. but it has been clarified that its a
waterford. the Rensho was just an example that you can get a bike with style for a similar price.

Don't worry , I emailed a 3Rensho expert and was told it maynot be a 3Rensho at all. I will follow up.

That thing costs less than my raw materials. I think that's a good indication.

So I got to see one up close and talk to the owner (Dennis I believe - from Ben's Bike EDIT Russell was the name here. I blame the whiskey). Cool guy, sweet looking bike, definitely NOT track. A coupla pics:

Ceya 12-05-04 09:47 PM

Bike is made in Japan with parts from 3Rensho parts. NJS on a road bike was the give away. just a little update.

How did that bike suddenly become a Waterford? Just because its from Wisconsin? Theres a million little shops building frames... I don't see how that one is necessarily any different.
