Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Kona Unit questions.

I posted this in the MTB sub forum, but thought I should post it here too.

I just received a 2002 Kona Unit, & need to know what size the seat post diameter is?
I found that the 2009 is 27.2", do you think they're the same?
And would I be able to convert my unit to 29" wheels & tires?(From a 2009 Kona Unit)

Part II:
I just mangled the seat post that was in there, was pretty much seized, had to drill relief holes, & grease it up with penetrating grease.
I ended up having to heat it up a bit & use a pipe wrench to muscle it out.
It's said 27.2mm on the bar, I chopped it down to use a
stubby for mock up & tuning, & it fit really snug.
Do you think I'll need to try 27.0mm seat post since I'm going to need a new one?
It was a pink seat post that I wasn't planning on keeping BTW.

Thanks in advance.

pink seatpost!? awesome!

yeah, sounds like your post was too big. maybe have to go with 26.8 even. they make this nifty gauge tool that is just a graduated post. go to a shop to have the tube sized and then buy your post from them. or order the post gauge yourself.

and 02-09 is a looong time in production runs. i wouldn't be suprised if it was different... then again i wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't.

I did both, & my shop friend said it's most likely 27.0, & by the time I got home form bike shopping, Tech confirmed it was 27.0mm.
Thanks Guys!!!

I replaced the seat post, seat, stem, handlebar(Red Risers to black straight bar)grips, front brake, & added fenders.
Just getting ready for own lovely Autumn weather we have around here.
Wet, wet, & a lil more wet.
