Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? in about an hour, I am going to try and ride the mountain bike over to the Art Museum. I told some friends I would meet up with them there to go Sledding.... If I see you I will try to not run you off the road into a snowbank, then hit you with snowballs and when you get up give you the WHITEWASH into a mountain of snow... I will TRY... no promises!

I just got back from a short (~12 miles) ride around the city. Many horns honking and shouting about eagles. I didn't know so many people cared about endangered species. Sticking to the major roads, I didn't have much trouble on an MTB with tires inflated to 20psi. Now I'm letting the Special__ed drip dry in the hallway. Fun fun and a flask of brandy doesn't hurt, either.

the only reason?!?!

what about the (vegetarian/vegan) cheesesteak? the mütter muesum? the innumerable multi-ethnic neo-classical/baroque murals? or that funny looking tubby green guy that wears the phillies jersey and has that party favor in his mouth.... whazzis name? oh yeah it's mayor street.
anyways, the list could go on and on.

there are plenty of other good reasons too.
i love riding the street of philly, the cheap beer, seeing my friend dailey, and the wonderful food. aren't those chessesteaks not vegan or something. i heard that someone found out they weren't. i could be wrong!

ah yes. the great vegan cheesesteak debate. the federal committee in charge of investigating that mess got tied up with several local political corruption scandals. i'm sure elliot ness will get to the bottom of it all soon enough. i believe that gianna's on the 400 block of s.6th is vegan friendly.

but alas... this isn't called loveyourtownforums.net.

*ahem* philly is a really rockin' fixed gear town

yea...philly's definitely got it goin on....oh yea!
my next question is....(well i didn't really ask a question before, so i guess it would be my first question)
is everyone still down for the pretzel ride tomorrow night with all this snow on the ground? will our efforts to eat hot, soft, salty, delicious pretzels be thwarted by a bunch of white cold stuff?

man, I was just riding in this crazy snow again.... its just.... crazy.

I am still down for the ride tomorrow, but fun-fortunatly all I have to ride is this GEARED mountain bike from the basement.... so if you can all stand to be seen with me, clickety clacking away... I am down for the ride. Of course, if its only me and Stet again, I will have to make more spoke cards, but this time they are going to have pics of Shogster, Legalize_it, IonChannel (and all the others) crying as Stet and I ride over them since we are totally HARDCORE!

what is wrong with me? All this talk of Giannas makes me want to ride down there right now. mmmmm

(by the way, the cheese is vegan NOW... for a while the Soy Cheese had Casin in it, so it wasnt really VEGAN, thats all fixed now..... fixed... get it? no?

it's 10pm and I just got done school- BUT I still have to run 5 miles tonight.... rrrrrrrr, I think i have to go home. I don;t know if i can wait another hour and a half ride around the city with you all then ride home and run for an hour. but i bet stet could do it since he's so hardcore (not to mention dreamy).

sorry dues and dudettes. expect me for thrashing on thursday rain, shine, snow, sleet or hail.

AND.... expect me for critical mass on friday. anyone else want to clog the snowy streets of philly?

tonight's pretzel fix was probably the most booty-licious ever. a veritable goldmine of random bike parts right outside of the pretzel factory.

the only thing missing from the photo is the pigpen style cloud of dust and misc bike parts flying out of legalize_it's bag.

right outside of the pretzel bakery there was a pile of assorted beat-up discarded bike stuff. legalize_it grabbed the biggest stash. you can kind of see the sweet fixed gear bike he scored and some collapsable bike frame labeled "mountain gold" in the first picture. what i don't have a good picture of is all the handle bars, stems, and two mini wheels he crammed into his bag.

Me: Hey, there was a huge pile of bike parts outside of the pretzel factory!
girlfriend: I hope you didnt bring any home
Me: (dumping out bag of handlebars onto the living room floor) YESSSSSS!!!
girlfriend: Hooray, more garbage in the apartment!

I gots' me some drop bars that I can cut into bullhorns (or leave as drops) for some of the other bike projects. Its a shame that Dan followed the trail of cogs into that creepy gingerbread house. I wonder what happened to him?
