Funny this thread should appear now.
I needed a new mouse for my infernal computator here and as I strolled up to the check-out, they had
Samsonite luggage scales for $9.00 near the register.
I just came in from the garage after weighing 3 bikes that I have not put away for the winter.
1994 56cm Fuji Absolute townie, w/axiom fenders, suspension seat post, adjustable stem, townie handlebars, original steel crankset, axiom rear rack and multiple safety and headlights = 33.5 lbs.
1968 24" Columbia, all steel everything, basically as it left the LBS when purchased new = 34 lbs.
1996 24" Mongoose Sidewinder MTB w/Blackburn rack, Truvative triple crankset, Shimano Deore XT components, Sun rims and Tioga 26 x 1.5 slicks = 28 lbs.
I was really suprised that the Mongoose was the lightest.

When you say 24" are you talking frame size or wheel size?

My 1996 Mongoose is the lightest MTB I've had in stock trim. It was only 25 lbs stock, though. Parts a little less fancy than XT.

Last I checked, with the classic stand on scale and subtract the weight, mine was 21 + or - .5 pounds.

Glad I could help...

I have a few steel roadies in the 23's without trying too hard, and none of them are Colnagos or Cinellis. Fully geared, not SS/FG. Building up a Grand Record (75 model 531 frame) and it shocked me. Only missing tires/tubes, cables, and a few tiny parts, it was 21.01. WITH a carbon steel framed Brooks saddle too. I am going to be building another SS one day soon, which is the reason I've been hanging around lately.

Lightest bike I've sen in person, was a Cervelo geared roadie at 13.06. Just plain sick.....,,,,BD

24" frame. The Blackburn rack is probably a couple of pounds, and I've got a bmx slingshot double clamp stem that weighs more than a standard stem.

kiwashere 11-23-11 11:58 PM

ooooh boy

Gt Gtb weighs 18.2 w/ weight weenie tubular box rims

Bennotto conversion weighs 19lbs w/ front brake and heavy beater alex rims (gotta love columbus SL tubing)

NIAC (Nisho-Iwai American Corp) Hi-ten single speed conversion is in at 23lbs

Fuji Track Pro was around 18.6

My Kilo TT was exactly at 20lbs, stock, but with weinmans.

Bottechia conversion weighed in just at 20 (great for a hi-ten frame!)

neurocop 11-24-11 12:08 AM

Just checked two bikes with the digital hanging scale. 2003 Zurich(triple CR)=22.2lbs, with front/rear LED lamps, computer, rear stay kickstand, and Axiom Road rack; and 1972 PX-10=23.5lbs, with front/rear LED lamps, computer rear stay kickstand, frame pump, and tubulars converted to clinchers (Mavic RimTech). Both bikes in 54cm seat tube length. Probably not superlight, but not heavy either.

dmbaile2 11-24-11 12:10 AM

Scattante R853 full road = 21.5
Kilo TT = 23
Schwinn Passage Single = 24lbs
Guerciotti SL series full road = 24lbs

MaverickBanksy 11-24-11 01:36 AM

Saracen mantra one 38lbs

RaleighSport 11-24-11 01:57 AM

Sekai 2500 comes in at 27, the pig with lipstick at about 39.

yummygooey 11-24-11 09:28 AM

Oh yea, my FTP was around 18 lbs, which was stupid cuz it was heavier than the TET.

Siu Blue Wind 11-24-11 10:48 AM

FYI this thread was just cleaned up of the trolling. Solbrothers, please exit this thread.

My Panasonic has a butted hi-ten frame and spec'd in the '81 catalog at 25. There are some reasonable hi-ten frames out there. Mine's a 66cm, though, so with racks it's got to be over 30. Still keeps up on the club ride sprint, though.

I should weigh my trek 620 sscx.

Someone tried to sell me one of those, I didnt take it because it felt like it was 10 pounds or something. I dont think it was a butted one

Oh yeah, my Schwinn "grocery getter" is probably close to 25 or 26 lbs.

LocoTracks 11-24-11 04:42 PM

My Madison is a hair over 20.
Libertas road bike is around 25.
I have a Klein Pulse Comp that, if memory serves, is 26.5.

My next bike should weight somewhere in the 17 area.

hamish5178 11-24-11 07:05 PM

My Mash is right at 16, under with Look pedals. Who knows about my Kilo. Maybe around 19 or 20?

solbrothers 11-24-11 11:43 PM
