Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

He didn't say that anyone on this forum recommended that.
If I can infer correctly he is referring to the droves of people out on the street riding a big gear at low rpms, which is real.

And hey, there's nothing wrong with riding a big gear on the street; do whatever makes you happy and keeps you ridin'.
Just don't kid yourself into thinking your doing favors for your pedal stroke.

Nevermind. I don't have time for pedantry.

My bad. I merely assumed that, given the amount of time you spend on non sequitur, you'd be able to squeeze in a bit of pedantry with no problem.
