I have no idea. Someone like Scrod can probably answer this.

Very nice.

What bars are those?

Big props on the salsa stem. Nice blance of color. Never a fan of the green Rush but you made it work.

I spent a good part of the winter building up this 2014 Soma Rush. The most enjoyable parts were lacing the wheels with the Gran Compe hubs, and applying shellac to cotton bar tape for the first time. Riding it--well, at 19lbs it accelerates like no other. The goal was to harmonize old and new on this one:

Headset: Ritchey
Stem: Cinelli A1 26.4
Bars: Cinelli
Bar Tape: Newbaum's Cotton
Bar Ends: Brooks
Brake Caliper: Miche
Brake Lever: Dia Compe Shot lever
Seatpost: Campagnolo
Pedals: Campagnolo
Saddle: Brooks Swift
Crankset: Shimano 105 (Octalink)
Bottom Bracket: Shimano 105
Rims: Mavic Open Sport
Hubs: Gran Compe small flange track
Tires: Continental Grand Prix Classic
Cog: Surly

Scottybigs,

a very nicely done Rush. I knew these chrome bikes would kill with some brown colour on it.

Congrats !

Gotta question, I see the latest Rush bikes right now are the 2014 but we here in the 15's. Does Soma not release the next year until they sell out of the previous yrs stock. I don't see that making sense.

Anybody know what 2015 ones will look like ? Do you suppose they will continue the chrome or go back to colour ?

Don't know about any of the release trends but you can still buy white and green Rush frames in some sizes.

3speedslow--the brown was the only way to go!

Re: 2015 Rush frames--prior to ordering my frame in January, I asked the Soma team whether they were introducing new paint for the 2015 models. The response was that "people seem to dig the chrome, so we're sticking with that". This being said, I did see a matte black prototype that they advertised on Facebook, and were selling in limited quantities. Could be planned for 2016. The only difference I can see between pre-2014 frames and the chromed frame is that I think the newer ones have water bottle bosses. Also, the chromed frames have Tange dropouts (or at least they started labelling them).

I gotta say, the chrome has really grown on me. At first I was buying the frame strictly for a Tange Prestige track frame at low cost, but now I've found that the chrome is really a defining feature of the bike. And boy does it turn heads.

The 2014 chrome also have the side tacked seat stays and the s-curved chain stays. However, the geometry remains the same.

I heard the same thing from Soma when I asked them that last year. The chrome grew on me, too. The bike gets compliments all the time.

Ah, I forgot about the chain stays. Right now it allows me enough clearance for a 53T chainring. I could (if I were so inclined) go higher than that, though.

I also forgot to mention that there's a Surly Tuggnut chain tensioner on the bike, too. The Gran Compe hubs come with aluminum locknuts (odd, I know--not where I would choose to save weight), and despite adequate tightening the drive side was always slipping. Steel locknuts would have been a cheaper fix, buuuut they're also not a bottle opener.

Man this thing is ugly. No titanium or carbon. Everything is color coordinated. No cards in the spokes and it's not even matte black.

Little upgrades and additions to the Rush

A different saddle to ride on for awhile, off with the Rolls and on with the

Next because of the 97-98 d heat I broke down and put a bottle cage on the bike. Went with a vintage Italian Cobra. The gold and black match with the tubing sticker.

I dig this bike alot. If it were mine, though, I'd get a black seatpost.....

Thanks, It's been a super ride so far ! Feels very sure on the road and always makes it seems like it wants to go faster.
Thompson...

I know, just so happens that a customer donated a short length Thompson to the shop. I'm circling it now ...
Boss might actually make me pay for it !

Thing about the seat post now on it, I love the look of the fluting, the blk and dark shading to it and it's Italian GPM heritage. Goes really well with the look of the other components. I don't think I would have used it if it was bright polished.

I see it now, didn't realize it was fluted and painted black. Very cool.

That bike's looking great--that makes another Soma Rush with a Brooks Swift. Nice matching gold on the bottle cage, too. I'm considering trying to add a bit of yellow to mine to match the Tange Infinity stickers on the fork...but that may be editorializing the bike a bit too much. When the canvas is a chrome frame, any added color really jumps out.

Thanks for the compliment.

Well I really love the Rolls I had on it earlier but the Brooks really does a great job of filling in as well. Many more saddles to try in rotation.

doubt I will ever see another Rush around here but sure do want to make it different from the crowds great examples too.

Stuck at home so worked up another project but added a little more red to the Rush. Red finishing tape on the handle bars. Happen to also have another Abus lock blk and red so that becomes part of the Soma's kit.

Still no word if the boss wants to give/sell me the Thompson seat post.

Man, I want to go ride !

Bump. Replaced the tacky black bell mounted on the bar with a nice Crane copper bell mounted on the stem. Looks and sounds a lot better !

Also, cleaned up the front brake mounting with a round radius washer to match the curvature of the fork crown. Previously I used a large square washer that worked ok but looked really tacky.

Changes nicely done ! Love the Cranes myself just not thought of putting one on the Rush. Copper looks good, I dig the brass ones.

Is the Tange HS alloy or chrome ? I went with chrome.

Brake looks well seated to the fork, good choice,

Love the Brooks !
