The pics I had seen of the pugsly before this had the bike looking squeaky clean, so I didnt understand what it was intended for. I thought it was just a regular bike with really fat tires.

I want a Pugsley sooooo bad - it will be my next bike.
I decided I needed one 4-months ago trying to go uphill in a long gravel wash. 26"x2.35" tires aired down just short of pinching the tube wasn't cutting it. Not everyone wants to go fast, but some of us want to be able to go anywhere.

Arrowhead 135
I think a pugsley may help if you are trying to cycle 135 miles while carrying 3 days of food, shelter, sleeping bag, clothes, and any tools you may need through -40 degree temps, deep snow, and blizzards.

Have a buddy that has done really well in the 135 as well as another that is planning on competing this year (and built (literally) his own bike). Been wanting to do it for a while, but need to devote a lot of time and money into getting back into shape and building up a bike as well as dumping a small fortune into the required gear. BTW a number of competitors ride fixed.

Yes, I have wanted to do this race since I found out about it last year. I planned to use my 29er but I fear that the tire width will kill me if it snows during the race. Plus, my winter backpacking sleep system is a 30f down bag inside of a 15f synthetic and I have never slept cold with it but they require a -20 degree bag which is super expensive for a one time use. Either way I will eventually do it but it will kill me to spend so much money on such a torturous event.

Maybe. Haha. I am currently finishing up my schooling in West Saint Paul but prior to that I went to school at *** for a while. If you have ever gone to Gander Mtn you probably met me. I was always bombing the steep part of Central Entrance (6th ave) on my Tricross on my commute home. I road on the lakewalk alot too and during the summer my bike was usually chained up near lester park for bridge jumping. Damn I miss Duluth.

it would be a blast to own one but hard to justify if you dont live somewhere with a mean ass winter. still, if i could even close to justify it i would do it.
