What's up with this? The starting bid is $524.99 and the "Buy It Now" price is $525.00. If I really wanted this, would I bid in the hope of saving a cent (while risking losing it to someone else) or would I pony up the $.01 to seal the deal? Is there something I'm missing?

Isn't that rear bottle cage going to get all muddy from the wheel splashed city muck. Hmm I need a drink of my favourite riding beverage. Yech, tastes like diesel and mud.

Agreed. But I didn't need any of you to tell me that stuff (I'm a pretty good judge of ugly). What's up with the weird pricing scheme? (Or are you telling me that the bike is stupid, so the seller is probably stupid, so it stands to reason that the pricing set-up will be stupid too?)

I think that he might just want to unload it a 525 bucks, and if no one wants to pay 525 bucks, then he'll keep it. sounds reasonable to me. either that, or his wife/parents/sig. other said, "you have too many bikes, you gotta sell one" so he said, "I'll try", and did what he did

Or it could be he is just trying to save $2.00. To set a reserve price costs more than a "Buy it now" price.

then why bother with the 524.99 initial bid?
he could have listed it with a fixed "buy it now" price only.
or as a 99 cent intial bid with a $525 reserve?

but the insertion fee for a $525 item is more than the insertion fee for a 99 cent item + a reserve.

that is an ugly bike...and I can't imagine riding it, no good to tuck, no good to ride upright looks godawful uncomfortable. made o' scraps, overstock from the LBS seller by his other items I'd say.

A lot of retailers that sell a lot of small ticket stuff on ebay will do that. Say, 4.95 starting and a 5.00 Buy It Now. My guess is he's seen it done and thought it was either normal or cool to do.

The machine they pay me to run is chugging along merrily across the room. It should be fine for another 15-20min. Then I'll spend 30sec picking up a stack of paper, then I'll sit back down.

Of course! Do you really think I'd spend so much time jiving on this site if I weren't at work?! The outside world has too many worthwhile diversions, but the office is BOOOOOOOOOOOORING.

Shi+ yeah it counts! I'm a grad student and I would guess that I have put in more hours this week than just about any other working stiff on this forum. Of course, don't ask about the other 13 weeks of the semester. :-)
