Recommend Me A Frame Under $375!

I'm looking for a fixed gear frame for under $375, that looks like a Leader 735 or Unknown LV2 or something similar with like a wide bottom tube.

The cheaper the better but just post any suggestions you have.

Thanks!

Leader 721?

Track Fixie Road Bike Frame with Fork Black 53cm - $139

  • One of the best fixie frames
  • Made in famous factory, although we cannot disclose the brand

You better believe it. :D /s

AKang269 12-18-11 09:30 PM

The 721 is pretty cool but I'd like something that curves in on the part near the back wheel. There was a word for it, I just forgot.
The frame is pretty cool but I'd like a branded one. :P

Bullet do you have one of these? If so, how would you compare it to a 721? Cause I'm thinking of getting one.

TejanoTrackie 12-18-11 09:43 PM

That looks a lot like my VISP, which is a boat anchor, much heavier than my 721. No comparison IMO.

Thanx. The "cheaper the better" should have tipped me off. Gonna stick with the Scrodder... I mean Leader 721.

Lol the "cheaper the better" just meant that I'd be happy with a good frame for cheaper. I'm just exploring my options right now.

I realize the 721 doesn't have that cool downtube you like but it seems like people who have them really like them and I've seen some sweet builds.

The 721 does look nice, and it could be a second choice for me but I really like how the seat post tube of the 735 and Unknown LV2's look.

Actually, the 721 has a pretty large downtube. And a seatube cutout looks stupid unless you slam the rear wheel. I much prefer simple round seatubes.

Ya, maybe it'll look better once I actually build my bike with the frame?
What is the point of a seat tube cutout? I think they look nice but do they have any point at all?

They provide rear tire clearance for large aero seatubes and short chainstays. Really just a racing thang.

This is the bike I have right now, do you think an Unknown LV2 or a 721 would look better?
I think the seatpost tube cutout is pointless for my bike but it does like pretty cool. But I don't know if I'd put down $100+ more just for that.

Well, here is my VISP, which has a seatube cutout. Judge for yourself.

AKang269 12-18-11 10:28 PM

Ugggh, I can't decide D:
I'm really attracted to the Unknown but the 721 has everything I want except the seatube cutout.

Any thoughts, suggestions?

TejanoTrackie 12-18-11 10:33 PM

Follow your heart.

AKang269 12-18-11 10:38 PM

Between the Unknown LV1 and the 721, I think I'd rather take the LV1.
I'm going to a bike store sometime to check them both out though.

You said the Visp was heavy. Any idea how much more than the 721?

AKang269 12-18-11 10:44 PM

Well the VISP is around 4.2 pounds without the fork, and around 6 pounds with the fork.
And the 721 just 4 pounds without the fork.

dddavid 12-18-11 10:46 PM

How about the Leader 725?

AKang269 12-18-11 10:48 PM

$400, I'd rather get the Unknown lv2

The frame is about a pound heavier. The VISP is all thick straight gage tubing, sort of like an aluminum equivalent of a cheap hiten steel frame. The Leaders are butted tubing and a lot lighter. The VISP fork weighs close to 2 lbs, and has a steel steerer tube. My 721 bike with a full carbon fork is 2-1/2 lbs lighter than the VISP (16.5 .vs. 19.0 lbs), but the 721 also has some light carbon bits on it as well.

dddavid 12-18-11 10:55 PM

I see the 725 on three different websites for less than $360.

TejanoTrackie 12-18-11 10:58 PM

If you buy a Leader, get it here >>> http://www.retro-gression.com/category/frames-forks

You're right but it's in the same range as the LV2 which I prefer.

Retrogression's a great store but I think if I do get a Leader, I'm gonna get it at a local bike shop since I don't like waiting for packages, and I don't know how to put it on :P

Thats sweet but all the decals. I'd have to get them off.

FastRod 12-18-11 11:20 PM

I want this frame in the future, thought of getting gears for it though but currently I'm running a single speed set up on a hybrid bike.
