Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Went mountain biking for the first time. Did a little obstacle course in my area. Borrowed bike, borrowed helmet, borrowed knee pads.

I've been riding fixed for my entire adult cycling life. Getting used to shifting, brakes, and coasting was a trip. But it was super fun.

The high five at the end is the best.

Sweet, Thanks for sharing the pics. The area around Rockmart has to be my favorite part of the trail. I love the shaded area along the creek as you approach Rockmart.

Maybe next weekend I can convince my people to go to the Silver Comet, though they usually prefer the Chief Ladiga side for camping.

This is so true. I even commented today that we were high fiving a bit too much. It's kind of funny as you get better at stuff, because when you go over something technical that you might have walked previously...it just seems like it's such a huge accomplishment. Or when you see someone else do the same thing, you're just so happy.

Also, are you peeing at the end of the video, it kind of looks like some mid stream action happening at the bottom of the clip? haha

Rex, are you coming down this way for Memorial Day? I've never been to the Alabama side.
Either way, I'd love to ride. Let me know.

There is talk about going to the New River Trail in VA instead, but we will need to reach a consensus soon. I will drop you a line if they opt for Alabama (I will try to be persuasive). There is a really neat campsite about 20 k from the border (halfway to Anniston) which they really like, so there is a possibility.

I rode a Brougham for a few years- a very overlooked bike, in my opinion it doesn't get enough credit as a good bike.

Nah. The guy crashing is the one most likely to whip it out.

Looking at it on a bigger screen today, it appears to just be a plant in the foreground blowing in the wind. On the small screen it looked like sunlight hitting water, haha.

Wow! I'd get seriously injured within 3 minutes. Still gotta photograph some clients tomorrow and my risk taking is not at that level.
