Very muddy today, I almost felt like I shouldn't have been on the trails today. But I did some trail work to make up for it

My face is about an inch away from my bars and my arm was fully extended when I was taking this, so I bet I looked like an idiot.

Making sure my guy had good position going into the climb in the road race of Valley of the Sun. For future reference, riding 78 miles in the rain and wind sucks.

Aha! So you pulled him until the start of the climb, then let him take the lead?

I pulled him until the start of the climb, to make sure he wouldn't get shuffled back too far. He's good but far from the best climber in that race. If he started the climbs towards the back he might have been one of the people who got popped on the climb each lap - there were five ~16 mi laps in total.

The descent after the climb is fast but still pedaling - you need to be in contact with the pack if you want to be able to draft/recover. Anyone who finished the climb with a sizable gap to the pack was donezo.

Sure do! He's new to San Diego and the racing team of the San Diego Bicycle Club. Matt is also routine user here in the 33 - PM me if you want to know his bf.net account

Content always comes first. A good image should be able to stand on its own regardless of processing, etc...

Interesting. My thoughts are exactly opposite. Since we see the world in color, I consider color photography to be "standard". I see choosing B&W as a special effect. Like in Franswa's photo, it creates an entirely different mood.

that's fine, then it adds something for you. completely subjective

I look at my pics & sometimes try hard to find images where color doesn't add something cuz I like B&W so much. but when it comes down to that question, I always seem to find some element of the color that justifies keeping it

ultimately, I agree with you, & the teacher

that said, it was a "color" class in an otherwise B&W photo curriculum. ppl were bringing in images that sucked & she was like: wtf is this? at one critique I put up a highway curve photo upside down cuz I wanted to abstract the curve from a common image to something more conceptual. pissed her off completely ... whatevs ...

BTW for the B&W river photo. we don't know about a different mood cuz we didn't see the original color image. looks like it probably had no good color. no leaves, sky not striking. whatever. the essence of the image is the shapes. removing the color lets us react to the best quality of the image without the distraction of bad color. I think I wud have cropped a 1/4" more from the top cuz the extra sky doesn't add much. simply stunning photo

my gosh, so many all over this forum!
