So the bike im working on has a Handlebar stem that is slanted downwards and im a taller bigger guy who wants to use this bike to help get into shape but i am affraid that it will be to foward for me if i use drop handlebars...i wanted to keep it original as much as possible but im not sure if there is a handlebar that would be good for it or not. Any ideas?

if your bike has a threadless headset and non-threaded steerer tube you may be able to remove the stem and turn it upsidedown (commonly referred to here as "flipping".) and reverse the slant. does the stem look like this?

if so, you're in luck.

if so, you're in luck.

the stem is one piece...it goes into the fork.

I run 46 x 17, which is a little light but great for accelerating away from stops and makes for decent climbing, easy on the knees. Drop bar all the way. If you are too streched out you might be stuck with using a simple flat bar or riser bar.
