Bar Tape Advise

I am lookin for bar tape for some drop bars i have. I currently have no tape on my drop bars. I have a grip at the very tips. This doesnt help since half the time i have my hands in the middle or top of the bars. So im thinking if i have tape my hands wont hurt as badly? What are some good brands/kinds of bar tape to get?

If your hands are hurting from the grips, it might be a good idea to start a bit thicker and softer and go from there.

Cinelli cork is a very good soft and thick tape.

If you find you like the tape a little thinner, Fizik is good. Lizard skins tape is very good, medium as far as thickness goes (though it comes in a thicker variety), but a bit more expensive. Most guys here say it's worth it. I live by the Fizik stuff.

i think the best handlebar tape is: wearing tight fitting full fingered gloves. i wear some easton batting gloves with bare bars, doesnt hurt, dont wanna.

just go to an LBS and get some tape, or ask them what they recommend. i've probably at least a dozen brands of bar tape over the years, and i've never had a "bad" roll.

Going from gummy grips on the ends of drops, to Brooks leather is a hell of an upgrade my friend.

Had some on an old Paramount of mine.... Only thing I don't like about leather tape is that you have to start at the base of the bar, because you cant tuck the edges under the endplug cause its too damn thick. Great tape though. If you are not pro at wrapping, pay your LBS $10 to do it, so your $80 bar tape doesn't look like sh*t...

get gloves and tape the bars with something cheap. you might buy 70 dollar brooks tape just to realize your bike isn't fit well and you have too much weight on your hands.

Whatever cork bar tape your LBS has. You're not gonna tell the difference between any of it at this point. Try stuff 'til you figure out what you like.
