except for the tiny 22" wheeled (!) pionyr road bike at my shop. single ring up front, with a single downtube shifter, shifting like, a 3 speed derailleur setup in the rear. when i first noticed the freewheel on that thing i was blown away...had never seen an outboard 3 spd like that before...and probably won't again. hmm...i think i'll try my hand at restoring it for the shop next week. |

I love the idea, hate the excecution. If those $0.25 hose clamps give the rider is going to be in a world of pain as he looks down to see a piece of conduit skewering his thigh. If it was welded I would give it an "A". Instead I give it an "A" for design, but an "F" for safety. Overall score C- (I weight safety a bit more). On that note, I will be presenting this concept to the local co-op for frame build ideas (we have a welder on staff). Enjoy |

3 arm cranks, could be campy, pretty old and pretty rare

73-74 production year Campy Gran Sport Strada, very fine. considered an upgrade to the Super Record gruppo, at least I'd consider it one. The hard part is finding rings, I sold that same crankset w/rings in good/excellent condition last month on Ebay, but they went to Japan so that sure aint them. purty cranks

I have a Raliegh twenty folder bought for $35 waiting in the wings for its turn. So far it has a long mtb seatpost and sprung cruiser seat, adjustable angle stem and mtb riser bars, shimano mtb 76 bb and cranks. Next is a set of 28 hole bmx wheels and bmx fork with v brake braze ons. Unfortunately, I have more projects than cash.

I had a 20" BMX fixie until a few months ago when it was dismantled for parts. I never really had a problem with the seatpost, despite being two stacked on each other end to end and clamped together with a seat post clamp. I suppose I'd give up on the hose clamps and simply bolt the conduit to the extra seat post clamp, making for "extra" seat stays similar to the way old fashioned roadsters were.

I'm all about making a neat bike but- Yikes. with the leverage on those x-long seatposts he's really tempting the gods.

reviving this thread because jonny skidmark's bike on FGG caught my eye after winning #1 beater/commuter/messenger...i'm interested in making a rig like this. does anyone else have any pictures of similar bikes? is there a company that makes seatposts longer that 410ish mm?

check out this conversion from a folding bike, recently posted on FGG, which turned out rather elegant, i must say.

It's not as difficult as it seems and it's fun to build and drive. I bought the original Fongers m2000 (1968) 5 months ago just because i thought it had an interesting frame, it is just a square tube with some cuts and some added stuff. The frame doesn't fold but seatpost and stem were adjustable. i saw the bmx fixed (#1421) wich made me think about the dusty 20 incher. A unfinished trackframe provided the (shortened) fork and dura-ace cranks. it's 51-14 is about the same as 42-16 for 28".Then i made v-cuts to make the angles the same as my #1456 bike and ordered the airline rims and thinner tires at a recumbent shop. Not sure wich handlebar to keep on it, drops or shortened downhill. It,s more fun to drive then my 28" bike because it's easy to throw it around corners and other cyclists. And the small wheels give an extra dimension to skids and trackstands. now this is my daily driver and if someone from the Netherlands is interested in #1456 let me know cause i can only use one bike at a time anyway. that thing is awsome....looks like he can't go much bigger with the front ring or the chain would be rubbing the underside of the box frame
