WAY different from the movies. I read them when I was like in middle school or something though, so I forgot a lot of it. The movies are awesome though, except for Marie dying in Supremacy.

Timeline by Michael Crichton.

1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. I'm through book 1, it's real, real good, pausing before getting into the next two books because I don't want to rush something this good.

Anne of Green Gables (canadian fiction class)
Washington Rules- Bacevich From Colony to Superpower-Herring And later in the semester, another three thousand pages, more or less. Being a history major has its disadvantages, such as replacing all the time I would have spent reading for pleasure with reading for class/research papers. |

Anything by Eco is worth reading, IMHO. Foucault's Pendulum is like a "Davinci Code" for smart people (N.B. -- it came out years before Davinci Code).

Read this as part of my research for a paper two years ago. It's pretty good. Major Taylor was a very interesting historical figure in my opinion.
Finished the book for the 2nd time last night, and am going to start reading this for the 2nd time: Paris-Roubaix: A Journey Through Hell |

Reading Raymond Feist. My favorite fantasy author. Also want to keep up with the Star Wars New Jedi Order books when I have time. I am a GEEK. Feist is one of my all time favorite authors. Just finished the Empire trilogy. Now reading Game of Thrones and it is great. Can't wait for the second series on TV in April IIRC. |
Finished 1Q84 recently. Didn't think it was one of Murakami's best. Seems like it needed an editor, longer than it needed to be and lacked the freshness in writing of his better stuff. Could have been a better book if they had tightened it up .
Also the new Neal Stephenson Reamde thoroughly enjoyable but lacking the inventiveness of Snow Crash or Cryptonomicon also longer than it needed to be. Distrust that Particular Flavor- William Gibson's non-fiction collection was really good. Elaborates on some of the interesting quirky stuff that makes it into the novels. Reminded me why I like him. Always find it ironic that people put picture of the covers of books in this thread. What are you reading, oh let me show you a photo of that... |

Ugh. This "Women in Literature" class is making me read the most mind-numbingly boring books. I get about 4 pages in, and then say **** it and read the sparknotes for the book. |
I'm currently reading A Feast For Crows. I'm halfway through and I gotta say that its pretty ******** to base a show on a series of novels that's not even done yet. This book is underwhelming compared to the first three.

Pros: - VERY, VERY insightful. This book has permanently changed the way that I eat. My diet for myself and my child will be dramatically and permanently changed. I can say this book changed my life. - If you ever wonder why America is fat, your friend is fat, you are fat...this book will help you understand. This helped me understand why even though I trained hard 6 days a week (2 of those days had morning AND afternoon workouts) and was still overweight. - It's not a fad diet...but it explains the basis of fad diets (the ones that are effective and the ones that are not). Cons: - It's sort of a dry read. But, unfortunately, it has to be. Gary Taubes makes some bold assertions and points and has to back them up with proof and inline citations. Otherwise, he'd be dismissed as writing BS. I skipped and skimmed over the really, really boring parts. I have already incorporated several of the points in the book and my body fat % has gone down and I'm stronger. The strength is due to weight training, though. But, it's no more weight training than I've done over the past 3 years. Same training but now it's more effective. The only change was my diet. |
