I believe it's very good, but the amazon.com reviews might help you decide if it would be of interest to you.

I would be surprised if this theory was valid. From what I understand of 20th century political history, the left has been forced to react to the right for essentially every administration after Nixon. Even Clinton's (and Obama's) administrations reacted/are reacting to the effects of long-term conservative legislation/political ideologies/attitudes. I.E. the act of shying away from labels such as socialist or progressive. I may have to read this book when I get some free time to read anything not mandated by my professors

I need something really good to read for an upcoming trip. Could be fiction or non. Generally like literary fiction or thought provoking non. Anyone read "Thinking Fast and Slow" or "The Marriage Plot"? Marriage Plot got good reviews in the press but a lot of crappy reviews on Amazon. Never read anything by Jeffrey Eugenides before but am a big David Foster Wallace fan although struggling through the Pale King.

I listened to the audio book of this 2 years ago during a long road trip for a big race and found it fascinating. Especially the part about how we are losing the ability to "Deep Read" because all we do now is skip and skim and are constantly diverted:

there is a growing belief that e-reading lessens comprehension vs. physical books.

not sure where i stand, but i know there are some classics ("Kon-Tiki" being one), that are more satisfying for me when read from my old battered paperback copy.

I have a hard time reading anything long on a computer screen but I've read a few long books on a Kindle and although I don't like it as much as paper, my comprehension seems about the same (my own subjective impression).

I think you'd probably have to quantify "e-reading" depending on the technology used and environment. The e-ink used in the Kindle is pretty good. And one of the reasons I bought it over other options was that I'm not tempted to do anything else on it but read (no web browser etc).

Going back and forth between these 2 books at the moment, depending on my mood:

the anti's maintain that it's any e-medium. i'm a big fan of the e-ink display and have actually forgotten it wasn't paper at times, until i had to push the button.

I read an old, battered paperback copy of "Kon Tiki" back when I was ten. I loved how they would catch sharks by their tails. (pictures in the middle of the book).

I'm now reading "Game of Thrones".

^ Any Hunter S Thompson but Hells Angels is a great book. He was a bad ass for sure.

"Kon-Tiki" is the high point of bad-assitude. months at sea and months away from any land to prove a point in a open raft that people said wouldn't make it and was at the mercy of the trade currents, having no contact aside from sporadic radio. in 1947.

Dude. I really want an e-reader, but I just don't feel right not having the physical books in my hand.

What am I supposed to do? :(

Give the Kindle a try. I like it over all of the others.

I really like having all of my books at the same time. For example, today I went to the coffee shop with intentions on making progress on a Malcom Gladwell book...but wound up in the mood to read a book on strength training.

+ if you have an iPhone with the kindle app it'll sinc all your books and where you are in them.

You can also sync and read from a web browser. But, of all 3, the kindle is preferred. I use the iPhone and browser when I want to refer to Something that I've read. Not for general reading.
