Pricing question - Jamis

Looking to get my first fg/ss and came across someone selling a brand-new-never-ridden 2010 Jamis Beatnik for $550. I can't seem to find a list price that these sold for new in 2010. It's 520 chromoly so is a step up from the 2011/2012 version which is HiTen. I'm also aware that bikes are more expensive in Canada. Any idea if this is a good deal?

Thanks!

I found a random website listing the 2010 Jamis Beatnik at $575: https://volkerbikes.blogspot.com/2009...mis-bikes.html

Edit: Is this where you found the bike?: https://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/bik/2835862972.html

See if you can knock it down to $450 or so.

Why does Jamis keep downgrading their bikes?
I just picked up a new 09 Jamis Sputnik, 631 frame with a 12k carbon fork for 500. Jamis makes me sad in pants nowadays.

Probably because people don't notice the difference and buy the bikes anyway? I dunno.

+1

When my brother worked in a Jamis exclusive bike shop (yes unfortunately there was such a thing), the only people who bought the bikes were completely ignorant of the differences between a bike with good components/geometry and a Jamis. The funny part, was that the owners were too.

sweet jesus, a lot of hate on Jamis around here. I've got a Ventura road bike, and I think it's a pretty awesome value for what you get.

Maybe you guys just don't like their SSFG offerings?

I dislike their mountain bikes more than anything else. I have little experience with their ssfg lineup.

The Ventura is a pretty well liked bike, from what I know of my local friends who ride them. I have not spent any significant time on one, but most people I have talked to really enjoy them.

That would be interesting if their mountain bikes sucked, considering they were pretty well known for that when the brand was a lot younger.

I prefer the older models with american classics wheelset and a modern looking crankset, I think it was the FSA Carbons (not sure).

Specifically with regards to the mountain bikes, the komodo sucked (geometry was way to slack for any potential front suspension upgrade), the dakar had horrible front/rear suspension travel issues (300 pound spring? wtf?), plus their XC bikes were way too heavy (and too ill equipped in terms of components) to be competitive in most XC races.

Their bikes were alright in the late 90's. Can't say much more than that.

one of the nicer rear wheel cutouts I've seen that wasn't from Cervelo.
