A sad day for EpicSchwinn :(
Right now I'm pretty depressed.
After coming home from work today I started to pull into the garage and heard a large crunch and crack. That moment when you realize your bike is still on the bike rack and you just broke everything. :( Got out and inspected the damage. Top tube is crushed in for about 6 inches and the fork is bent a ton. Totally unfixable. I have barely enough money to fill up my gas tank right now so the project is basically a bust. I built this thing up from the bare frame on day one with hopes of learning to race on the Burnaby Velodrome this summer. I'm just a college guy so making a bike as nice as it was (relative to what I can afford) took a ton of sacrifices and I probably spent way too much time and money on it. It was my baby and now it's all gone :( I don't really know what to do now. I won't have the money to replace the frame at least until the end of summer but I don't know if I even want to replace it at that point. Should I just part it out and build up another bike in a year or two when I can actually afford it? Anybody else been in this kind of situation before? http://i.imgur.com/kqd2z.jpg http://i.imgur.com/7Sv0o.jpg |
RIP rush... :(

are all the parts salvageable? If so go find a 10speed frame! Id ship you mine, but in all honesty it'd be more cost efficient to find one.
|
Sucks man :(
Do you still have the Schwinn? Because you could probably transfer everything over. Also, assuming the components are okay, maybe something cheap like a Pake? |
Sorry to hear of your loss. Buy yourself a beater and save what parts you can. Rebuild when you can.

If all your parts are still good, pick up a $70 Nashbar frame and swap all the parts over. All you might need is a new headset/stem.
Vuelta frame Ride it till you get money. |
**** dude... ****ing hell that sucks.
|
Is the frame still good? Maybe check the alignment on it.
If the fork took the brunt, maybe you can get a new one and be rolling again. I have a nice steel threaded track fork but the steerer is going to be too short for you. Let me know if you need any parts, I have stuff laying around. |
Man, that really does suck. I know that feeling as I am a college student myself and used most of my money building up a bike. I don't know what I would do if mine got destroyed in our recent garage fire. I had no idea what was happening to them as I stood there watching as smoked pour out of the doors. I cringed every time I head a bike getting tossed out of the way by the firemen.

Cars man, whyyyy
|
That sucks, bro. You aren't alone, though, a lot of people tend to do this. Just be thankful it wasn't some insanely expensive race bike. And don't consider it a total loss! Just pick up a used frame and swap the parts over.
Oh, and you can always swap to a trunk rack next time... or just place a reminder on your steering wheel/garage door opener. |
and invest in a day glow sign that screams REMEMBER THE BIKE
|
ive got a beat up old alloy fork i would send you but im quite sure the steerer would be much too short and you would still need a frame...
it is hard to tell from the picture, but most of the parts still look sound. an older road frame would probably get you rolling for less than $50. |
I feel you dude; losing a bike is like losing family; worse is when it's at your own hand.
From the picture of the damage, is the frame cracked or is that just the paint? Would you mind posting different angles of it? I think the frame is salvageable if it's not cracked. |
Thanks everybody for the condolences. I really needed some bike people to vent to :(
I still have the schwinn and might put the parts on it if I can swap it all for free. I might take it as an opportunity to slowly collect really nice parts and build another one years down the road. Maybe get a cheap used road bike for practical purposes when I have the funds but save the fancy track bikes for later. :/ |

Soma seems like a cool company... try contacting them to see if they have some sort of "crash replacement" thing they can do.
|
feels bad man indeed

Dude, that sucks. I know you're strapped for money but if it's any consolation at all, Retrogression will hook you up with a Pake Rum Runner frame and new chrome fork at cost. PM me, e-mail or call the shop.
