Just spend a little more. You not regret.

Keep in mind the Wabi Lightning doesn't have track geometry. If you're looking for something with snappy quick steering like most of the other bikes here you probably wont find it with a Wabi since they have a lot bigger fork rake and not very steep head tubes.

also keep in mind they aren't making them anymore so the stock they have now is all that's left.

You should check out spicer cycles Gene does some of the cheapest custom frames you can buy and the quality is great. Might be a little more than 400 depending on what you want. True, but my Lightning is plenty quick around corners and stiff enough for me. It doesn't handle as quick as my previous bike which had track geo, but I think track geometry is overrated for use on the road anyway. The Lightning's BB is high enough for FG riding, it's stupid light (which you definitely notice) with the right wheels and some WW components and it's stable enough to be comfortable. Shame it's being discontinued. Now I will definitely be more careful with mine.

if you want cheap and light, you want aluminum / scandium. myself, i would be looking for something gently used and nice...the lightning is an excellent choice, maybe a concept if you want to be all track and stuff.

is it just me or are people with small budgets overly concerned with shaving a few grams off their frame weight?

if $400 was my price limit I would buy a soma rush or wait for a cinelli gazetta to go on sale somewhere.

I would also consider the wabi classic frameset for $375. he builds them with fairly basic components for under 19lbs, but I think the geo may be more relaxed

The lightest fixed/singlespeed frame I've owned is a Cannondale Capo. My 54 came in at 1300g for the frame. You could probably find a used one for well under $400.

Although I'm sure it's not the lightest thing out there, a Pake French 75 seems like a decent bike for the money too.

I just bought a 2007 Cannondale Capo frame/fork - 56cm. The frame alone weighs between 2.8-3lbs. And the carbon/aluminum fork was about 1.2lbs. Don't know if it was a great deal or not, but I paid $350 for it including BB/Headset/Stem.

Don't think his frames are all that light unless you get him to make you an aluminum. Straight gauge chromoly. My spicer is light but I have no idea what it weighs.
