Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

God Is In His Heaven

Chicago and Dearborn, trapped in traffic in an Escort, going nowhere fast, been the same since 95th and Western, chapped ass angry, rain coming down, nothing on the radio except Ambrosia "How Much I Feel", miss the light, gonna be there another 2 minutes, late for work, turn to the right, look through dirty glass to the sidewalk between two parked trucks: fixed gear rider appears from the right truck, wearing all black, arched over his bullhorns, skidding beautifully, wheel locked so tight I could almost read his spoke card, disappears 3 seconds later into the left truck, a memory stored, played over and over. That's how much.

Not sure if I stole it from Blind Willie McTell or not, but there are many, myself included, that believe this to be Dylan's finest vocal performace.

Still my favorite reference, Pogues "Sickbed of Cuchulain." Cheers.

Agreed. And those lyrics and the pathos and the haunting truth of it all.

"This land is condemned
all the way from New Orleans
to Jerusalem."

It rages with the truth.
