why don't you guys just do wtf you want? who cares if someone wears a cycling cap?
if you really think you're too much of a poseur to wear a cycling cap, then your problem isn't the cycling cap.

keeps my head warm under my helmet and keeps my hair from looking bad (since I'm on bike all day, every day)
i have many hats, to match my socks. some actually are low enough with a sensible bill to keep rain off my glasses (for a short time)
but mostly i want to look cool

i wear one under the helmet, brim up.
keeps my bald head from getting weird tan lines/sun burns from the large vents in my helmet.
acts as a good sweat absorber.
a little extra warmth when its cold.
good for rain.
and i only wear it by itself after a ride and the helmet is off.

Really? It seems like, if the sun was high in the sky, and you had the brim adjusted just so, you would cut down on the sun that comes in from above (even when you wear sunglasses, sun sneaks in from straight up above and sometimes makes it very hard to see since the sun is reflecting off the insdie of your lenses). I wouldn't know though. Never wore one.

If you want protection from the sun use sunglasses (or clip-on sunglasses).

I've definitely used my bill to protect my eyes from the sun. It's especially useful (for me) when I'm going on 7PM rides and the sun is going to be out for another 30-45 minutes here but you don't want to deal with sunglasses. flip it up when it goes down a little more

It's not like I think I'm going to get singled out and made fun of or beaten. I'm just not a hardcore fixie dude and didn't want to step on anyone's d1ck. I thought maybe that's some sacred right you have to earn by jumping 10 school buses or something.
For example, in the distance running community, it's frowned upon to wear a Boston Marathon finisher's jacket if you did not actually compete in and/or finish that race. It's not that you can't buy and wear whatever the f*ck you want - it's a free country. But you will be looked down upon or at least raise a few eyebrows when folks say "oh way to go you ran boston?" and you say "no no I just like the jacket".
I personally dont give two sh1ts about boston or finisher's jackets. But there are those that do. So yeah, that's kinda where I was coming from with this thread.
Let's face it, style and fahsion has it's place in cycling. Why else would they make bike parts in all those pretty colors? If this thread offends you, feel free to change the channel.

Alright. I'll tell you what. When my Retrogression cap comes in the mail, I'll do an experiment and see if I can't get that sucker to block some sun. I'll report back with my findings...

i wear a regular DC baseball type hat thats starting to turn colors from all the sun, when the suns going down or its raining i wear it normally, otherwise its usually backwards to keep my hair from getting all monged, and its totally aero.
i thought about getting a cycling cap but i determined that the brim was useless so i continue to make my black hat turn brown

How do you all wash you caps? May be a lame question, but I tossed mine in the wash once and messed up the bill pretty bad. I want to get some more but want to know how to wash them first...

Since the bill of a cycling flap is all flopsy, I don't think putting it through the washing machine (and line drying) affected mine in the slightest. I've only done it once though and it's wool if that matters at all.

Nicely said. And I agree. But alas, I have been known to lack confidence every now and again. Stupid human emotions...
