I love carleton's grease drippings. And I'm glad you put my name thing together. I'm proud of you.

wait a second, you upgraded your chainring, AND HAD A VALID REASON TO DO SO!?!?!?!?!?? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?

This is just like you wanting to up grade your cranks for absolutely no reason.

wait... a... second...

Can you explain further?
I never claimed to be smart or knowledgable about bikes. In fact I've gone out of my way several times to make sure to let you all know that I'm NOT knowledgable about bikes. So what sacred fixter commandment have I broken now?
By use I meant 3 years of riding. By abuse I mean never cleaning or degreasing it.

Wow look at all the action this thread is getting now? Such a shame that honest to goodness bike questions don't generate this kind of response on a bike forum. You have to resort to insults to get a reply. Not that I started it, but I'll play along.

Pretty sure you were the one one to start the insulting.

"Uh-oh, these people don't support my ideas, I better start with the personal attacks."

Look, you upgraded the other parts on your bike for a reason. They were old, and damaged. There is nothing wrong with your crankset, there is no reason to upgraded it.

Ride it 'til there is a reason.

Being aware of the lifespan of components is just general knowledge that someone should know.

Have you done anything to educate yourself about bicycle maintenance and wear or do you just plan on starting dozens of idiotic threads with no point and then complaining and antagonizing when you don't get the proper attention you crave?

And no, you have to resort to not being a condescending child to get your questions answered. Which appears outside of your grasp right now.

Well I made sweet sweet love to your mother a couple dozen times last week. Does that count?
BTW, she had no idea how long a chainring should last either.

Personally, I like the contrast between the silver arms and the black ring:

like the rest of BFSSFG is any different though, people just decide to be a-holes when they smell blood in the water.

Not necessarily. I don't make a thread for every part on my bike, and ask for meaningless approval.

I make my unnecessary upgrades in silence.

oh yeah I agree about the amount of threads, I just mean the people who replace things purely because they don't work anymore around here can be counted on one hand

Im gonna go the other way on this one. If you have the cash and the desire to change out a component on YOUR bike then by all means go for it. Its not really the best thing to do when considering cost effectiveness but you will gain some knowledge of the bb and crank, you will like your ride better (maybe), you'll have something new to show off to your friends, and over all you'll be happier. If 6 months down the road you decide to replace your current bike with something different then you'll know first hand what everyone else was trying to say. Have fun with your bike and experiment with it, then you'll know what you like and dont like

it's not like you can't move the cranks to another bike either. once you get into higher end track bikes anyway you're probably buying a frameset and building it up too.

I wouldn't put lipstick on a pig personally (no idea what your frame even is, especially since your current cranks aren't bad at all, but I buy parts all the time I don't need immediately if the price is right.

but no, nothing is wrong with your crankset

Dude was a little weird. More posts in 3 weeks than I had in 2 years.

My budget Origin 8 crankset has held up surprisingly well. Nice round chain ring, and I havent flexed the cranks at, and I'm no lightweight.

I can't see upgrading to nice parts on a budget frame, couldn't imagine doing so if I didnt even like my frame.

There are so many things wrong with this post.... and geeee that chainring looks fairly new overall (minus the mashed teeth) to be retired this early...

That wasn't his, he just pulled it from some other dudes webpage. It's also not a fixed gear chainring, looks like a 30T MTB ring.

I had a feeling something wasn't right. Didn't have my daily morning dose of [strike]bath salts[/strike] caffeine. Right.

I would figure this was the case: a campy chainring is anything but a 'low quality part'
