It's in my sig. Arguably, everything on that bike (except frameset and wheelset) is top of the line.

Hey! Wait A Minute!

How would a Dura Ace anything in a single speed, be better than a Tiagra anything in a single speed?

I mean the the design and construction is so simple...

I think that Shimano just might be selling its name on single speed components. That's it!

So that must mean that the same gruppo hierarchy in single speeds, is the same hierarchy in road bikes...

Dura Ace > Ultegra > 105 > Tiagra > Sora > 2300 > Hogsnot

Nah...That can't be!

Same hierarchy, but I don't actually think Shimano produces other track cranksets. I think its just DA. They don't feel the need to produces low end/middle cranksets in a market that is already flooded.

what? i dont even...

Thanks Nagrom! :thumb:

That was quite the lesson!

PS.

However, I still believe that Shimano is just selling their name. A decent and durable crankset can be made with state of the art precision with relative ease these days. It doesn't necessarily have to have the name Dura Ace or Shimano on it...That's for road bikes!

That's why they don't all say Dura Ace on them. It's one of the stiffest, lightest cranksets available.

The point still stands, even if those bikes don't have DA on them, they don't have anything on them. Nothing worth the price they're asking, Which is why bikesdirect has become the obvious solution for many.

I'm a Newbie when it comes to fixies and single speeds. I don't claim to be a know it all. There are plenty of things that I know very little about. There's no shame in my game, condescender!

Why do you want to know? Are you considering buying one of these? Is there a price range? If you are just interested in knowing about the nicest bikes then maybe you should look at the porn thread.

nicer cranks, nicer handmade wheels, none integrated seat clamp, cane creek brakes and levers.
pretty colors

So then, it's Dura Ace or nothing at all...

It's either Dura Ace or go fish!

Hmmm....If that's so, that's enough to make you think for sure!

Ok then c0urt!

Thanks! That's nice to know....

There are lots of good/decent cranks, all of which have a brand labeled on them. Sugino, SRAM, Dura Ace, Campagnolo, even Andel, etc.

prooftheory 07-06-12 12:51 PM

It isn't Dura Ace or nothing. There are several high end cranksets available. Campy record pista and Sugino 75s are both very nice and can be found on professional track racer's bikes. Just below that is SRAM Omniums with are often stiffer than any of the above but have problems with their GXP bottom brackets. Any of these are going to be nicer than the cranksets that come on the bikes that you linked to.

That's not the point of my post at all. In fact, I said the exact opposite.

The components on those bikes are utterly brandless. If the company making them doesn't have enough pride/credibility for their product to take credit for them, it doesn't say much for the product.

GENESTARWIND 07-06-12 12:55 PM

dongs

prooftheory 07-06-12 12:56 PM

That isn't what he said. What he said was that Shimano only makes Dura Ace and that his Dura ace cranks are more or less top-of-the-line. I'm beginning to think that you are just trolling.

c0urt 07-06-12 12:56 PM

It is odd to me, masi used to put high end parts on their bike but no one would buy them.
now that people are half way buying them, they are putting mid range to lower parts on them.
and they people who used to buy them dont want them any more more.
I got mine on a shop discount/ few other things and feel in love with it. but since then their high end bikes are epic but their low end bikes are border line walmart stuff.

they had a different frame maker back then and most of their money was in their road bikes, they were still testing the waters on their fixed gears so they only made a few.

We all get the chance to be Avant Garde in some places. I'm certainly not that here, with single speeds!

Nagrom_ 07-06-12 01:03 PM

My overall point is, if you going to spend a thousand dollars on a bike, you better get a thousand dollars worth of bike.
