Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Your thoughts on this wheelset?

Hi all,

Looking to invest in a wheelset for my first fixed gear.
I've got a "vision" in my head for the bike, and it involves yellow rims and so I thought I'd ask for your opinion on these wheels/tires/cog for my first fixie.

Your thoughts are valued and appreciated - Cheers!

Not sure about the price but I can tell you they're cheap and most certainly heavy. Seems like the Chinese generic kind that comes with retrospec fixies that come in the colors of the rainbow.... I would hit up velomine or wabi for a set that gives the best bang for the buck.

Find something similar here and it will almost certainly be better and at a similar price.

Not worth the price. Looks cool for sure but not great quality.

Plus, you should get a wheelset with a machined braking surface for the front wheel, at least.

You will be happier if you get a lighter rim, I promise you. Your vision should be more about function than form. Also it's not 2006 anymore

I saw a Chinese food delivery man rocking the gold deepV rims the other day. Thats a sign from the all-mighty gods of fixed geardom that classier (non-day glo) setups are the only way to go for maximum street cred-ness

OP actually listened to the feedback instead of complaining that we were thickheaded! How pleasantly surprising.
