Fyxation 31.8 bullhorns, brakes?

Anyone know if it is possible to mount a cross brake lever on these bars? It looks like the clamp area is 31.8 and then it slims down to what I assume is 25.4. Not sure if there's still enough room to mount a lever though.

Would that actually fit? I don't mean fit as in its either a 25.4 or 31.8 diameter lever, I mean fit as in there's enough room on the bars.

Looks like that bar is pretty fat all the way to the bend. Probably not meant for cross levers.

Is that what you are referring to?

EDIT: If you got a lever with a fat enough clamp, you would have plenty of room.

Seriously.

You won't be able to use a lever with a 31.8 clamp because the bar tapers too much. The smaller diameter section of the bars measures 23.8, so a lever with a 24mm clamp should work but you'll end up losing a good portion of the top hand position.

What about something like this right next to the stem?

https://www.amazon.com/Brake-Lever-Te.../dp/B00450VFT6

That would work I think.

The clamp on those are exactly the same width as the ones in post #2.

As seen here, the bars literally begin to taper right out of the stem:

They won't work.

op...denske gave you the best answer - these bars obviously are meant for barend levers if one is going to use brakes with them.

however, & Scrod...please don't take this as a jab at you, if you are bound & determined to use a cross-top lever i still think you are better off with a 31.8 lever. here's my reasoning...

cross levers are only about 1/2" wide & there is the small area of the bar extending beyond the stem clamp (which could be increased in size by using a narrow faceplate stem) that you can clamp the lever onto without it overlapping too much into the taper. i did this on my nittos which have that very small built-on "shim" for the stem clamp & even though the lever's clamp extends a small bit beyond it, it is rock solid. that's got to a better solution than trying to clamp a lever onto the taper or the drop of those fyxations using a shim, doesn't it?.

have fun & good luck...

Dude, it won't work because there isn't enough room before the bars begin to taper. Even if you use the most narrow stem you can find and somehow do manage to mount the lever on the bulge, the barrel adjuster will hit the faceplate if it is mounted that close to the stem. I know this because a customer we recently built a bike for wanted to do that exact thing and it was a no-go.
